Connecticut Sun News Release
Uncasville, CT - Tomorrow, the Connecticut Sun will be joining the CT Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity & Opportunity (CWCSEO) at the organization's "Celebrating Black Fatherhood" event at the Connecticut State Capitol building in Hartford.
The event, happening February 10 from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM EST, will highlight the importance, value and contributions of fathers through their presence and involvement in their children's lives. This event is free and open to the public, encouraging people of all genders to attend. The Connecticut Sun will be joining the festivities, showing support and providing all dads in attendance with Connecticut Sun swag.
"Celebrating Black Fatherhood" will consist of a presentation on the Connecticut Fatherhood Initiative (CFI), a broad-based, collaborative effort of statewide agencies led by the Department of Social Services, whose mission is to support children, mothers and fathers by focusing on the important influence of men in their children's lives. CFI focuses on changing the systems that can improve fathers' ability to be fully and positively involved in the lives of their children. Additionally there will be a panel discussion led by Real Dads Forever, a fatherhood strategies development organization. Panelists include Doug Edwards, founder and director of Real Dads Forever; Anthony Gay, Department of Children and Families - CFI Domain 5; Pat Wilson-Pheanious, Former Legislator - CFI Domain 5; and Denise Drummond, Legislative Party Analyst for the CWCSEO.
"We are honored to have the Connecticut Sun in attendance at our event," Drummond remarked. "It is such a wonderful thing to have organizations in our state support our initiatives and show up for our communities."
In addition to the discussion, Angel of Edgewood-a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that serves as a resource of food security to the Greater Hartford community, regardless of their circumstances-will be distributing care packages to all dads in attendance. The care packages will be drawstring bags containing hats, scarves, mittens, socks, shirts and toiletries.
"Having the opportunity to uplift and celebrate Black fatherhood, especially during Black History Month, is truly special. There are so many Black men doing their best to support their families, and having events like this that not only celebrate Black fathers' efforts but also provide them with resources is truly important work. The Connecticut Sun is proud to take part." - Morgan Tuck, Director of Franchise Development and Assistant General Manager
