June 14, 2022 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Connecticut Sun News Release
Uncasville, CT - The Connecticut Sun will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Title IX during its game against the New York Liberty on Wednesday, June 22 at 7:00 P.M. EST at Mohegan Sun Arena, in partnership with the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Events will be happening all night long to commemorate the special occasion. Representatives from the Basketball Hall of Fame will be in attendance, along with a slew of Hall of Famers to celebrate, including: Jody Conradt, Sylvia Hatchell, Cheryl Miller, Pearl Moore, Van Chancellor, Theresa Grentz, and Rebecca Lobo (who will be calling the game on ESPN). Connecticut Sun's 20-year Season Ticket Members will have the opportunity to meet and greet these Hall of Famers before the game at an exclusive event in the Earth Suite in Mohegan Sun Arena.
"The Hall of Fame is honored to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Title IX in partnership with the Connecticut Sun. This Celebration ties directly into the mission of the Hall of Fame to recognize the historical context of certain moments that changed the game and this certainly is reflective of one of those key moments. We are proud to support our partners at the Connecticut Sun and Mohegan Sun and we look forward to welcoming many Hall of Famers to the game that night." - John L. Doleva, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame President and CEO
As part of the celebration, the Connecticut Sun is hosting the Connecticut Sun Title IX Panel and Networking Event at the Vista Lounge at Mohegan Sun Casino. The event will begin with one hour of networking, followed by a panel discussion featuring moderator Clare Smith Marash and guest speakers Dr. Ann Olivarius, Carol Stiff, and Karen Issokson-Silver. The panel, which will be held under the themes of sports and sexual harassment, will be celebrating the legislation; discussing issues that women still face today (i.e. harassment at college, inequity, March Madness) and how to best advocate for change; and looking to understand more about pathways to justice and the work of the WNBA in ensuring a brighter future for all women.
Admission to the panel costs $50 and includes one (1) complimentary drink voucher and a ticket to the Sun vs Liberty game taking place directly after the event. Those interested in only attending the game can purchase a game ticket in section 104 or 111. Proceeds from those tickets will benefit the Women's Sports Foundation. Additionally, each ticket purchased will accompany a free admission ticket to the Basketball Hall of Fame. To purchase tickets for the Title IX Panel and Networking Event, click here.
"We have terrific programming for our celebration of Title IX this year. Our guests have served as thought leaders and trailblazers for Title IX and the fight for equal access to sports and protections under the law. I couldn't be more proud to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Title IX with women who have paved the way for me to be in the position that I am in. There is no WNBA or Connecticut Sun without this legislation and their sacrifices, so we are thrilled to be able to honor them that evening." - Jen Rizzotti, Connecticut Sun President
