Defenseman Kevin Connauton has been named the Vancouver Giants player of the month for December 2009. Connauton played 10 of 11 games in December recording 5 goals and 9 assists for 14 points. Connauton was also plus 4, and had 5 multi point games, highlighted by a 2 goal, 4 point game December 27th in Kelowna.
Connauton finished the month of December leading all WHL rookies and defensemen with 42 points, his 17 goals is also tops among defensemen. The 19 year old from Edmonton is also one goal shy of the Giants single-season mark for goals by a defenseman set by Jon Blum in 2007-08. Connauton is on pace to break Brent Regner's record for points by a defensemen at 67, set last season.
Connauton and the Giants have two games this weekend at the Pacific Coliseum before they vacate the building for the Winter Olympics. Tonight the Giants host Spokane at 7:00 pm, tomorrow night it's the Kelowna Rockets, with game time at 5:00 pm. For Tickets call 604 280 4400 to charge by phone.
