
Conley Collects Three Hits in M-Braves' Loss to Shuckers

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (49-61, 16-26) fell 12-3 to the Biloxi Shuckers (59-53, 25-18), dropping their fifth straight game on Friday night at Trustmark Park.
The Shuckers exploded for seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings, proving to be the difference.
Luis De Avila made his team-leading 21st start. The lefty did not give up a hit or a run through the first four innings. Things unraveled in the fifth, and De Avila finished with four earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. De Avila struck out seven batters and surpassed 100 strikeouts, upping his mark to 105 strikeouts this season. De Avila is 6-8 with a 3.23 ERA in 100 1/3 innings this season.
The M-Braves took their first lead of the series in the third. After Cody Milligan reached on an error, Cal Conley bunted his way on to put two runners on. Luke Waddell scored Milligan with a single up the middle to make it 1-0.
Conley finished 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, and he leads the league with 108 games played. Conley has racked up 95 hits which ranks top ten in the league. Waddell knocked in his fourth run of the series to improve to 51 RBI this season, and he has accounted for four of the five M-Braves RBI this week.
The M-Braves led 1-0 after four innings when Biloxi exploded for four runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth to take a 7-1 lead.
In the seventh, Cade Bunnell and Bryson Horne each singled. The M-Braves loaded the bases but were unable to bring in a run.
Jesse Franklin V improved his on-base streak to 27 games with a double off the wall in right field in the eighth.
Biloxi homered twice and scored five runs in the eighth to extend their lead to 12-1. Felix Valerio hit two homers and recorded four RBI after coming into the night with three home runs and 23 RBI on the season.
Drew Campbell singled in the ninth to extend his on-base streak to 11 games. Campbell has 13 hits in 10 games in August. Horne singled in the ninth for his second multi-hit game since joining the M-Braves last week. The M-Braves scored two runs in the ninth on a balk and Conley single.
The fifth game of the series is on Saturday night at Trustmark Park. LHP Domingo Robles (6-7, 3.94) will make the start Mississippi while RHP Christian Mejias (4-9, 7.24) will start for Biloxi. The first pitch is at 6:05 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, MiLB First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
