Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - On behalf of the Medicine Hat Tigers Organization, our fans and everyone that listens to Tigers Hockey, we would like to congratulate Bob Ridley on calling his 4000th game for the Medicine Hat Tigers.
"It is remarkable that Bob has brought Tigers fans every great moment in our history. His voice and his name have become synonymous with the Medicine Hat Tigers and his compassion and commitment is truly appreciated by the Medicine Hat Tigers. Mr. Bob Ridley will always be the "The voice of the Tigers." Tigers President and Governor Darrell Maser
Bob broadcast the first game in Tigers History on October 15th, 1970 and with the exception of one game, he has been here each and every Tigers game in our 51-year history, describing in vivid details every moment that has gone into the 35 banners hanging in Co-op Place.
Bob has been there, describing all the action for each of the Medicine Hat Tigers five Western Hockey League Championships and two Memorial Cup Championships. In the Spring of 1973 Bob would get to make his first Championship call as the Tigers dispatched the Saskatoon Blades to claim the franchises first Championship. Ridley went on to broadcast the Tigers first appearance in the Memorial Cup from the old Montreal Forum.
In the 1986-87 season the Tigers would return to the top of the mountain claiming their 2nd WHL Championship and their first Memorial Cup in Oshawa, Ontario. The following season saw the Tigers again capture the Western Hockey League Crown and Ridley would once again be part of history as the Tigers became only the 6th team in WHL history to win back to back Memorial Cup Championships, this time in Chicoutimi, Quebec.
In 2004 Bob would once again have the call as the Tigers captured their 4th WHL Championship, sweeping the Everett Silvertips in 4 games. Rids would get to broadcast his 4th Memorial Cup Tournament in Kelowna. Then for the 2nd time in the decade and for the 5th time in franchise history the Tigers would claim WHL supremacy in double overtime of game 7 against the Vancouver Giants...a goal scored by Brennan Bosch in the fog would become one of the most famous call of Ridley's Career and resonate with Hatters for all time. The Tigers and Bob were then off to Vancouver for their 5th Memorial Cup Appearance.
Over 51 seasons Bob has played an integral role in countless players lives and careers, whether it was late night chats at the front of the bus or in the years following during visits in the broadcast booth. Each and every player, broadcaster and staff member are grateful for the time they have spent with the man they affectionately call Rids. When you ask Bob who his favourite Tiger of all-time is or even his favourite moments, he simply responds with "Too many".
