Condors Weekly: Bakersfield Advances To Second Round

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -

The Bakersfield Condors came from a 2-games-to-1 deficit in their best-of-five first round match up with the Victoria Salmon Kings, culminating in a 2-1 victory in the decisive Game 5 Monday night. The Condors advance to the National Conference Semifinals where they will take on the #6 seed Stockton Thunder, who ousted the Alaska Aces in four games.

Wednesday, Apr. 7

VICTORIA 6 vs. Condors 3

RW Wes Goldie recorded two goals and an assist and LW Chad Painchaud scored twice to lead the Salmon Kings to a Game 1 victory at Save On Food Memorial Centre. F Stephane Goulet scored twice and D Scott Marchesi registered a goal in the loss for Bakersfield.

Thursday, Apr. 8

Condors 4 vs. VICTORIA 2

The Condors bounced back with a Game 2 victory behind a hat trick from LW Kyle Calder. Calder scored the game winning goal with 1:21 left in regulation and added an empty net goal to seal the win. D Evan Stoflet picked up his first goal of the season as well for Bakersfield. G Timo Pielmeier earned the victory in net.

Saturday, Apr. 10

Victoria 3 vs. CONDORS 1

Attn: 5,603

LW Kyle Calder scored the first goal of the game 7:18 into the third period, but the Salmon Kings rallied for a 3-1 win. LW Chad Painchaud tied it up in the first, and D Jimmy Sharrow scored the game winner with 2:33 left in the third.

Sunday, Apr. 11

CONDORS 5 vs. Victoria 2

Attn: 3,732

C MacGregor Sharp recorded two goals and an assist, and LW Kyle Calder scored and added two assists as the Condors evened the series at 2-2 with a 5-2 victory on Sunday night. F Mark Voakes tallied his first career playoff goal, shorthanded, and F Andrew Ianiero scored his record 17th career Condors playoff goal into the empty net to secure the win.

Monday, Apr. 12

CONDORS 2 vs. Victoria 1

Attn: 4,083

F Dan Kissel scored with 48 seconds left in regulation to snap a tie score and push the Condors to a narrow victory over the Salmon Kings. G J.P. Levasseur earned the win by stopping 31 shots, and C Adam Naglich scored his first career playoff goal in the opening minute of play.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

* C MacGregor Sharp, C Adam Naglich, F Dan Kissel, D Evan Stoflet, and F Mark Voakes each scored their first career playoff goals in the opening round against Victoria. G Timo Pielmeier and G J.P. Levasseur also recorded their first playoff victories.

* Both Condors goaltenders rank in the top 6 in the ECHL in goals against average. Pielmeier is 2nd with a 2.01 and Levasseur is 6th with a 2.67. The Condors record is 2.58 (min. 100 minutes played), in 2003 by Kevin St. Pierre.

* LW Kyle Calder recorded five goals in the opening round, and is only two shy of tying the Condors single playoff season record of seven, set by Dave Bonk in 2006. Calder has already tied the Condors record with two game-winning goals (shared with three others). Calder's five goals are tied for first in the league in the post-season.

* The defensive pairing of Evan Stoflet and Eric Regan combined for a +15 rating in the opening round. They both recorded a +4 in Game 2, tied for the post-season league high this season. Stoflet ranks first in the ECHL with a +8 this post-season. D Shaun Fisher holds the Bakersfield record with a +11 in 2006.

* The Condors did not score a power play goal in the first round. They had only 12 power plays in five games, the least amount in the Kelly Cup Playoffs thus far, including six teams that only played four games.

* The Condors lead the league in total (13,418) and average (4,473) attendance through the first round.

* C MacGregor Sharp is tied for the ECHL playoff lead with both a four-game point and four-game assist streak.

2010 Kelly Cup Playoff Picture

The #4 Utah Grizzlies host the #5 Las Vegas Wranglers tonight in the only remaining game from the first round, a Game 5 match up that will decide who moves on to play the #1 seeded Idaho Steelheads. Out East, #1 Charlotte takes on #5 Cincinnati and #6 Florida battles #2 Reading in the American Conference Semifinals.

ON THE DOCKET:

The Condors host Game 1 on Friday and all fans will get a Condors Red Riot Light Stick. Game 2 is Saturday and everyone will receive Condors Red Riot Cheerstix. The Ambassador of Cheer, Cameron Hughes, will also be at the game on Saturday to help work the crowd into a frenzy! Doors open at 6 p.m., the puck drops at 7 p.m., both nights. The second round of the playoffs are sponsored by ABC23 and Goodwill Industries. Fans are encouraged to wear red to the games and keep the Red Riot going in Condorstown for the National Conference Semifinals.
