Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Bakersfield, CA - In a Monday night contest the Victoria Salmon Kings and Bakersfield Condors met in the deciding Game 5 of their National Conference Quarterfinal Series at the Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, CA. Victoria gave Matt Keetley the start in net while the Condors countered with Jean-Philippe Levasseur.

The Condors took a 1-0 lead just 59 seconds after puck drop. Andrew Ianiero controlled the puck behind the left goal line and fed a pass into the slot for Adam Naglich who quickly snapped a shot that beat Keetley between his pads into the back of the net. Naglich's goal was his first of the playoffs. Andy Brandt pulled Victoria even at the 11:09 mark. Defenseman Jimmy Sharrow forced a turnover in the neutral zone, streaked down the right wing, and put a shot on net from the half boards. Levasseur made the initial save but the rebound was collected by Brandt in the left faceoff circle who put a backhand shot past the goaltender's blocker. Brandt's first marker of the post-season sent the teams into the intermission tied at 1-1.

Neither team could register the go-ahead goal in the middle frame as both goaltenders took the spotlight. Keetley stopped all 10 shots he faced, while Levasseur was also perfect with 12 saves. The teams remained deadlocked in a 1-1 draw heading into the third period.

Bakersfield would net a late goal to take a 2-1 lead with just 49 seconds remaining in the game. MacGregor Sharp fired a shot on net from the corner that was stopped by Keetley. The rebound fell in front of the Salmon Kings' netminder and Dan Kissel banged the puck into the net for his first tally of the playoffs. The Salmon Kings would pull Keetley after the go-ahead goal for an extra attacker but were unable to register the tying marker. Condors 2 Salmon Kings 1. Bakersfield wins the Best-of-5 National Conference Quarterfinal Series 3-2.

Victoria went 0/5 0.0% on the power play while Bakersfield was 0/3 0.0%. The Salmon Kings outshot the Condors 32-25.
