Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Condors put up a season-high 52 shots on goal, but only scored once in a 4-1 loss against the Las Vegas Wranglers in front of 6,380 fans at Centennial Garden on Friday night.

The Condors came out firing in the first period. They pelted Vegas netminder Dany Sabourin, who played four games earlier this year in the NHL with Calgary, with 17 shots. They were shutout on five power play opportunities in the opening frame alone. In the second period, the Wranglers touched up Condors G Joe Watkins for three tallies to open the scoring. Joff Kehler, Dave Cousineau and Greg Day all scored for the Wranglers to take control of the game. Bakersfield was leading in shots 36-15 through 40 minutes, but trailed 3-0.

Vegas extended the lead early in the third period with a tally from Cam Bristow at 2:27. The Condors didn't give up, though, nailing Sabourin with 16 more shots on goal in the third frame and finally beating him with a goal from Valdemar Pelikovsky at 9:43. Bakersfield put up 52 shots on the night, and 100 total shots in their final two games against the Wranglers.

The Condors end their season with a 25-38-9 record, including 14-17-5 at Centennial Garden. A silent auction of the team's pre-game warm up jerseys raised over $11,000 for local children's charities through the Active 20/30 Club. A ceremony during the first intermission honored the retirement of a pair of Condors Legends, as well, with Paul Willett and Glen Mears officially ending their playing careers. While Mears didn't play, Willett finished the night with no points and four shots on goal.

Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden box office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. Season and group tickets may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden.
