Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors have agreed to terms with forward Brett Lutes for the 2007-08 season, head coach Marty Raymond announced Wednesday. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Lutes, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound, left wing from Riverview, New Brunswick, was the team's leading goal scorer last season, notching 34 goals in 67 games, including a team best two hat tricks. The 25- year-old had 12 power-play goals, scored the team's first goal seven times and netted the game-winner four times. His 36 assists helped him average more than a point per game, and his willingness to mix it up resulted in 113 penalty minutes. In 10 Kelly Cup Playoff contests, he had a goal and five assists.
"Obviously, it's important to have guys that can put the puck in the net, and when you can bring back the guy who did it the most, it's big," Raymond said. "Plus, he has roots in the community, was just recently married, and is committed to training hard in preparation for next season."
2007-08 will be Lutes' third season with Bakersfield. He spent the 2005-06 season with the United Hockey League's Port Huron Flags, notching 53 points (23g, 30a) and 188 penalty minutes in 63 games. Lutes began his pro career with the Condors in 2004-05, recording 37 points (18g, 19a) and 104 penalty minutes in 66 games. In five Kelly Cup Playoff games that season, he tallied three goals and an assist in the Condors' five game series against Alaska.
"I'm looking forward to coming back and building on last year," Lutes said. "We have a great chance at a championship and it would be great for the city of Bakersfield."
Lutes is the fifth player to agree to terms so far this season, joining Sean Venedam, David Kudelka, Andrew Ianiero and Reagan Leslie.
