Condors and Ducks renew affiliation
August 26, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors announced today they have renewed their affiliation with the Anaheim Ducks for 2009-10. The announcement was made by Ducks Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations David McNab and Condors President Matthew Riley. The term of the affiliation agreement is one year.
The two clubs joined up last season for the first National Hockey League affiliation in Condors history. The affiliation brought players such as RW Chad Painchaud (pictured), D Andrew Thomas and C Matt Caruana to Bakersfield, and over the course of the season eight different Condors spent time in the American Hockey League, a team record. Six of those players were a part of the Ducks organization.
"We're pleased to continue our relationship with the Ducks and have Ducks prospects here in Condorstown," said Riley. "They are one of the premier organizations in the NHL. Last season was a get-to-know-each-other season, and I think in Year Two the benefits to both organizations will increase and our fans will be pleased with the on-ice results."
"Due to our fan base, facilities, community involvement and media exposure, we feel we provide a lot to the Ducks, over and above just developing their prospects as hockey players," Riley continued. "We look forward to the day, with pride, when former Condors will don Ducks sweaters in Anaheim."
"We are very excited to extend our affiliation agreement with the Condors for the 2009-10 season," said Ducks Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations David McNab. "The close proximately of Bakersfield and the Condors on-ice success make the organization an ideal affiliate for the Ducks and California hockey fans."
Anaheim finished the 2008-09 season with a 42-33-7 record, 8th in the Western Conference. Their 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs performance included a first round upset of the top-ranked San Jose Sharks in the Opening Round before a second round playoff exit to Stanley Cup runner-up Detroit. The Ducks became the first California-based team to hoist the Stanley Cup in 2007.
