Complete Game Dooms RailCats in 7-1 Loss

GARY, IN - The Wichita Wingnuts behind and outstanding effort from starter Jon Link (1-1) and a steady offense took the final game of the four game series 7-1 over the Gary South Shore RailCats Sunday at US Steel Yard. While the Wingnuts offense was part of the story they were not the headline as Jon Link went the distance in the win for Wichita

Link fired a complete game on 108 pitches keeping the RailCats from getting the offense going in the win. Link finished strong retiring the last 9 of 10 to close out the game for Wichita.

The RailCats never lead in the game and fell behind in the first when Ryan Khoury led off with a double then came home on a single from Jake Kahaulelio to make it 1-0. Wichita added another pair in the top of the third when Mike Hernandez and Chris McMurray both had doubles that scored a run each and made it 3-0.

The RailCats got their lone run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Drew Martinez but did not score again in the loss. Dustin Crenshaw went 5.0 IP for Gary scattering nine hits giving up four runs only one was earned. Coleman Stephens worked 4.0 IP of relief giving up three earned runs.

Wichita added four more on the afternoon getting one in the fourth and another three in the sixth highlighted by a Mike Hernandez RBI double winning 7-1. The RailCats fell to 5-5 while the Wingnuts went to 7-4.

The RailCats open a three game series as their home stand continues Monday afternoon at 4:10pm against the Kansas City T-Bones. RHP Stephen Hiscock will go for the RailCats against RHP Andy Noga for Kansas City.
