Utica Comets News Release

Providence, RI - The Utica Comets fought from behind to beat the Providence Bruins by a score of 2-1 in regulation on Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

The Bruins jumped out to an early lead with a shorthanded tally from Sean Kuraly who scored on a breakaway at 3:14. Taylor Doherty assisted on the period's lone goal. The Comets outshot the Bruins 16-15 despite killing two penalties over the course of the period.

Jordan Subban tied the game by scoring on older brother, Malcolm Subban, at 6:05 of the second period. His ninth of the year was assisted by Borna Rendulic and Michael Carcone. The even strength goal was the only score of the period that sent the game into the third period tied at one.

Utica grabbed the lead at 11:08 of the third period with a one-timer goal from Mike Zalewski. Pascal Pelletier began the play by backchecking in his own zone. He fed Cody Kunyk with a pass who quickly played it to Zalewski for his first of the year. In the final 51 seconds, Peter Cehlarik was awarded a penalty shot but Richard Bachman turned him aside. Providence continued the attack by pulling Subban for the extra attacker. Providence could not come up with a goal and lost for the first time this season in regulation when scoring first and leading after the first period.

Bachman made 36 saves to improve his record 5-7-1. Subban made 32 stops to fall to a record of 4-9-4.

The Comets went 0-3 on the power play but killed both penalties in the game.

The Comets are back in action tomorrow night as they take on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m. at the Webster Bank Arena. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHL Live.
