Comets Lose 7-5 in Dallas

Dallas, Texas – In Kansas City’s third game in four nights, the Comets led twice but were hurt by four Dallas goals in the third quarter and lost 7-5 to the Dallas Sidekicks at Reunion Arena. The Comets fall to 5-10; Dallas improves to 10-7. Kansas City is now tied with the St. Louis Steamers for second place in the Central Division of the Major Indoor Soccer League. The Milwaukee Wave leads the division by six and a half games.

DJ Horvath started in goal for the Comets. Chris Damico left at halftime during FridayÂ’s game against Baltimore and did not play in Dallas.

Dallas scored first in the game, with a goal by Ricardinho at 2:18. Brian Soell and Miodrag Djerisilo combined for a goal at 8:35 in the first quarter to tie the game 1-1. Kansas City was awarded a powerplay after Mark Rowland was called for tripping, but the team could not record a powerplay goal. Three seconds after the powerplay expired, Jeff Davis scored a goal with help from Djerisilo at 13:46. Kansas City led 2-1. DallasÂ’ Nick Stavrou scored seven seconds before the first quarter expired to deny Kansas City the lead at the quarter break.

The Comets had a one-goal advantage again in the second quarter after Dino Delevski scored on a one-touch shot from an Anthony Maher pass (at 3:56). Stavrou scored again at 9:19 to even the score 3-3. The half ended in the same score.

Kansas CityÂ’s chances were hurt in the third quarter as Dallas went on to score four goals (from Stavrou at 8:33, David Doyle at 9:20, Beau Brown at 11:09 and Stavrou at 12:49). Between the goals by Doyle and Brown, Juan Cabeza scored for the Comets at 10:16. The Comets trailed 7-4 after three quarters. It was CabezaÂ’s first goal of the season and his first career goal in the MISL.

The Comets defense shutout the Sidekicks in the fourth quarter, but the team did not get any closer to a win. Cabeza scored again at 4:29 for the only goal of the fourth quarter, and Djerisilo recorded another assist. The Comets put in sixth attackers Vlatko Andonovski and Wes Wade, but the team could not manage a two-goal rally. DJ Horvath took the loss in goal; Sagu was awarded the win.

Notes: Juan Cabeza scored two goals for his first goals this season and in the MISLÂ… Sidekick Nick Stavrou scored four goals in the game and tied his career high for goals in a gameÂ… Djerisilo led the Comets with one goal and two assistsÂ… Kansas CityÂ’s next game is against Philadelphia at 7:35 p.m. on January 3 at Kemper Arena.
