Published on January 5, 2004 under Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release
GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Dan Green, Milwaukee Wave
Green went 3-0 with a 2.95 goals against average in three games last week, saving 33 of 42 shots for a .786 save percentage. The 31-year-old netminder saved eight of 10 shots in a 6-2 win over Monterrey last Wednesday, December 31; stopped 10 of 14 shots in a 6-5 win over San Diego on Friday; and turned away 15 of 18 shots as the Wave downed the Fury 6-2 on Sunday. The native of Waukesha, WI, has now won five straight starts, posting a 3.40 goals against average and .793 save percentage over that stretch. Green has now assumed the League lead in goals against average (3.87) and save percentage (.776), and has improved his record to 7-1 on the season. He becomes the second Wave goalkeeper to win weekly honors this season; Nick Vorberg (October 20) is the other.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Troy Dusosky, Milwaukee Wave
Dusosky scored three points (two goals, assist) and blocked five shots during Milwaukee's 3-0 week. The 27-year-old scored a point in all three games, including the game-winning goal in the team's 6-2 win over Monterrey last Wednesday, and blocked three shots as the Wave defeated San Diego 6-5 on Friday night. Dusosky, who hails from Anoka, MN, was a Second Team All-MISL pick in 2001-02 and 2002-03, and made his second All-Star appearance a season ago. For the season, Dusosky has scored six goals and 10 points and blocked 17 shots. Dusosky is the second Wave player to be named Defensive Player of the Week, joining Chris Morman (October 20). His twin brother and teammate Todd was named the League's Offensive Player of the Week on November 17.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nick Stavrou, Dallas Sidekicks
Stavrou led all MISL scorers last week with seven goals in three Dallas wins. The native of Worthing, England, scored one goal in the Sidekicks' 9-8 overtime win against Kansas City last Wednesday and netted two scores as Dallas defeated San Diego 7-5 on Sunday, but it was his standout four-goal performance in a 7-5 win over the Comets on Saturday that guaranteed his weekly accolades. The 34-year-old is now tied for ninth in the MISL with 25 points and tied for third with 17 goals. Stavrou, who is riding an eight-game scoring streak, was also named the MISL's Defensive Player of the Week on October 27, making him the first player in the League this season to garner both Defensive and Offensive honors.
