Comeback Effort Falls Short in 3-2 Loss to Generals

The New Jersey Titans dropped its first game of 2019 in a 3-2 loss to the Northeast Generals at New England Sports Village on Saturday night.

Connor Marshall finished the night with a goal and two assists while David Fessenden made 36 saves to help improve the Generals' record to 11-18-6. Spencer Stanley finished the game with a goal and an assist while Brandon Perrone made 31 saves in the losing effort.

Kyle Gierman opened the scoring at 9:12 of the first period when he carried the puck to the slot and flung a wrist shot over Perrone's glove, collecting his sixth goal of the season.

Northeast continued to build its lead in the second period with a goal from Alex Cohen at 3:55. He received a pass from John Jaworski and hooked the puck around a sprawling Perrone for his seventh goal of the season. Connor Marshall made it 3-0 at 18:02 when he put away a rebound on a two-on-one, earning his ninth goal of the year and his third point of the game.

Spencer Stanley responded for the Titans 18 seconds later, as he picked up a rebound at the top of the left circle and fired a shot over the glove of Fessenden. Mitch Machlitt took the initial shot, earning his first point as a Titan.

Michael Outzen scored the lone goal in the third period, when he deflected a point shot from Stanley, and collected his 10th goal of the season. The Titans eventually pulled Perrone for the extra attacker, and their best chance came with seven seconds left when Stanley took a wrist shot from the hash marks. Fessenden made the save, and the Generals won the final faceoff to secure their second straight victory over the Titans.

The Titans will look to split the back-to-back and avoid a three-game losing streak when they face the Generals today at 4:30 p.m. Fans can watch all of the action on hockeytv.com.
