Columbus Survives Peoria Comeback, Wins 3-1

The Columbus Cottonmouths survived a determined comeback attempt by the Peoria Rivermen on the way to a 3-1 win.

Columbus took a 3-0 lead during the third period, only to have Peoria storm back on a Josh Harris goal 18:15 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Cottonmouths were led by goalie Andrew Loewen, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. Loewen certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.24 entering the contest.

Columbus excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

The Cottonmouths were led by Kyle Thomas, who tallied one goal and one assist. Thomas scored short handed 12:12 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Columbus. Columbus found itself down a man on Neilsson Arcibal's slashing. Louis Belisle also scored for Columbus. In addition, Columbus received assists from Matt Gingera, Shawn Bates, and Max Cook, who each chipped in one.

By firing 29 shots on goal, the Rivermen exceeded the 26.2 shots they average per game this year.

More assists for Peoria came via Michael Slowikowski and Alex Hudson, who contributed one each.

The Cottonmouths incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Eric Levine rejected 25 shots on goal for Peoria. The Rivermen incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
