Series Streaks: Colorado holds a one-game winning streak against the Destroyers, as the teams only have met once in history, in Week 8 of the 2005 season.
Coaches: Columbus, Doug Kay, first season in Columbus, fourth overall (4-4, 20-33 overall).
Colorado, Mike Dailey, third season (6-2, 30-13 overall).

OVERVIEW: The Columbus Destroyers arguably have one of the toughest schedules in the Arena Football League for the 2006 season. That will hold very true over the next two weeks, as the Destroyers are on the road for back-to-back contests against the AFL's top two teams.

Despite the Crush (6-2) falling this past weekend to Los Angeles, the defending ArenaBowl champions have started the season off hot and have yet to lose a game at the Pepsi Center.

The Destroyers earned their first road victory of the season on Mar. 3 against the New York Dragons and did so coming from behind to win 65-54.

Columbus has won three of its last four games, including their best all-around game of the season against Philadelphia. The Destroyers knocked off their Eastern Division foe by a count of 53-20 and are now locked in a three-way tie for second in the Division. In order to keep that hold, they will need a win over the Crush.

A COLUMBUS WIN OVER COLORADO WOULD...

- Give the Destroyers a 5-4 record on the season
- Give the Destroyers their fourth win in their past five games
- Give the Destroyers a 1-1 record overall against the Crush
- Give the Destroyers their second road victory of the season

DESTROYERS Last Week:
Philadelphia Soul 20
Columbus Destroyers 53
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Destroyers defense forced four Philadelphia Soul turnovers in a 53-20 rout in front of 12,807 fans on Huntington Field at Nationwide Arena on Saturday night. The 20 points allowed by the Destroyers defense was the second fewest in franchise history and fewest since the team moved to Columbus in 2004. The lowest came on Feb. 9, 2003, when the Destroyers topped Carolina 44-16.

Destroyers quarterback John Kaleo must have been closely watching the NCAA basketball tournament the last few days as he looked like a point guard distributing the ball to eight different receivers. Kaleo was sharp connecting on 26-of-34 attempts for 302 yards and five touchdown passes. It was the third consecutive game that Kaleo has passed for over 300 yards.

Wide receiver/linebacker David Saunders took home Ironman of the Game honors after hauling in seven passes for 100 yards and two scores. Defensively, Saunders added two fumble recoveries and 1.5 tackles.

The Destroyers received the opening kickoff and marched down the field in the game's first three minutes. Kaleo threw a perfect pass from 17-yards out to Saunders to give the Destroyers a 7-0 lead.

Philadelphia answered right back when quarterback Tony Graziani found wide receiver/defensive back Mike Brown on a 27-yard connection to knot it up 7-7. Brown led the Soul in receiving with nine receptions for 117 yards and a score to earn Offensive Player of the Game honors.

With both teams unable to score off of their opponent's turnovers in the second quarter, Columbus made the best of their second opportunity. Graziani's screen pass to Sean Scott was juggled and tossed into the hands of defensive specialist Jerald Brown for his team leading sixth interception of the season.

Brown didn't stop there. He carried the ball a short five yards for the score, extending Columbus' lead to 20-10. Brown would later add his seventh interception of the season to be named Defensive Player of the game. It was the third time this season that Brown had two interceptions in a game.

With the Destroyers leading 23-20, Columbus was put in good field position after a Philadelphia pass interference call in the end zone. On the very next play Kaleo connected with Bond on a 13-yard touchdown pass to give the Destroyers a 30-20 lead, one they would not lose.
THIS WEEK's OPPONENT:

The Colorado Crush are coming off a 2005 season that saw the team take home an ArenaBowl XIX championship this past June, and the team has picked up right where it left off.

Known for Chief Executive Officer/Co-Owner John Elway, the Crush has started the 2006 season with a 6-2 record, and is undefeated at home.

The Crush are under the direction of head coach Mike Dailey, who has been around the game for over 16 years. In three two-plus seasons, Dailey has turned the Crush around from the 2-14 squad he took over in 2004.

Under center for the Crush is quarterback John Dutton, who is in his seventh season in the Arena Football League. In his career, Dutton has guided two clubs to ArenaBowl titles. He led the Crush there last season and guided the San Jose SaberCats to a title in 2002, where he was named ArenaBowl XVI Most Valuable Player.

Dutton's favorite target has been offensive specialist Damian Harrell. So far this season, Harrell has caught 72 passes for 964 yards and 28 touchdowns. In 2005, Harrell was named the AFL's Offensive Player of the Year.

LAST MEETING WITH COLORADO:

DENVER - The first ever meeting between the Columbus Destroyers and Colorado Crush did not go the way the Destroyers had hoped, as the Crush jumped out to an early 21-6 lead and did not look back in a 52-37 victory in front of 14,361 fans at the Pepsi Center on Mar. 20, 2005. The win improved the Crush to 5-2 on the season.

After the Crush jumped out to the 21-6 lead, the Destroyers battled back to cut the lead to 21-19 when quarterback Ryan Vena found wide receiver/linebacker Randall Lane from 30 yards out for a touchdown.

The Destroyers continued its comeback when Sedrick Robinson found the end zone on a seven yard touchdown run in the third quarter to give Columbus a 29-28 lead with 11 minutes, 6 second remaining in the game.

But the Crush defense stepped up after that, as they held the Destroyer scoreless until the 3:15 mark of the fourth quarter. Colorado also had a pair of interceptions returned for touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Offensive specialist Damien Groce had game highs in receptions (11) and receiving yards (141).

DESTROYERS NOTABLES:

DROP BACK
The Columbus Destroyers defense forced four Philadelphia turnovers en route to a 53-20 victory in front of 12,807 fans on Huntington Field at Nationwide Arena on Saturday night. The 20 points allowed by the Destroyers defense was the second fewest allowed in franchise history and fewest allowed since the team moved to Columbus in 2004. It also was the fewest points scored by the Soul in franchise history. Quarterback John Kaleo passed for 307 yards and five touchdowns on 27-of-36 passing and defensive specialist Jerald Brown had two interceptions in the win.

FORWARD MOTION
The Destroyers will take on the Eastern Division leading Dallas Desperados (7-1) on Saturday, Apr. 1. Kickoff at American Airlines Center is set for 7:30 p.m. (ET). The game will broadcast on FSN Ohio. The Destroyers and Desperados met once already this season, a 52-38 Dallas victory on Feb. 11. The teams have met five times in history with the Desperados holding a 4-1 edge. The Destroyers victory came on May 22, 2004, when Columbus took home a 68-56 victory at Dallas.

HEAD COACHES
DOUG KAY: The Destroyers hired Doug Kay as head coach on July 14, 2005. Kay is in his first season in Columbus and brings 12 years of Arena Football coaching experience. In 10 of his 12 seasons, Kay's teams have qualified for the playoffs, including two ArenaBowl championships. Kay also has coached the Charlotte Rage (1995) and the Carolina Cobras (2000-01). Through eight games of the 2006 season, Kay has guided the Destroyers to a 4-4 record and has the team tied for second in the Eastern Division race. On Saturday, Mar. 18, 2006, Kay earned his 20th career head coaching victory, a 53-20 win over the Philadelphia Soul.

MIKE DAILEY: Colorado head coach Mike Dailey is no stranger to the game of Arena Football, having spent over 16 seasons around the game and is in his 10th season as a head coach. Prior to joining the Crush, Dailey spent 13 seasons with the Albany/Indiana Firebirds, including the last seven as the head coach. On June 26, 2003, Dailey was hired as head coach of the Crush, which he inherited a team that finished a dismal 2-14 the previous season. It did not take Dailey long to turn around the Crush, as he guided the team to an 11-5 record in his first season. The next season, Dailey guided the Crush to an ArenaBowl XIX championship, the first for the franchise. Dailey is fourth all-time in head coaching victories with 94.
MAJOR DISTRIBUTOR WITH BIG PRODUCTION
Destroyers quarterback John Kaleo continues to show why he is one of the Arena Football League's all-time great quarterbacks. For the third consecutive game, Kaleo passed for over 300 yards. In the process, Kaleo completed passes to eight different receivers. On the night, Kaleo completed 27-of-36 passes for 307 yards and five scores. Of the five touchdowns, Kaleo completed them to three different receivers. Wide receiver/linebacker David Saunders and offensive specialist Carl Bond each had a pair of touchdown receptions, while wide receiver/linebacker Thabiti Davis had the other. On the season, Kaleo has completed 158-of-266 passes to 15 different receivers. He has thrown for 1,837 yards and 30 touchdowns. Seven different receivers have caught touchdown passes.

PROVING WHY HE IS AN IRONMAN
Wide receiver/linebacker David Saunders only has played in six of the team's eight games this season, missing two games due to injury. But in the six games he has played in, Saunders has played well enough to move himself to third on the team in receiving. Saunders had arguably his best game of the season this past Saturday night against Philadelphia. In the game, Saunders led the team in receiving with seven receptions for 100 yards and two touchdowns. He added two fumble recoveries and 1.5 tackles on defense to take home Ironman of the Game honors. On the season, Saunders has 30 receptions for 341 yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively he has recorded 11.0 tackles (7UT-8AT), two fumble recoveries and two pass breakups. Saunders has had a solid Arena Football League career. In six-plus seasons, Saunders has caught 321 passes for 3,832 yards and 86 touchdowns. Saunders also has recorded 109.5 tackles (83UT-53UT) in his career as well.

DOUBLE DIPPER
Destroyers defensive specialist Jerald Brown does not like to intercept just one pass per game. Instead, the third-year player out of Glenville State prefers to intercept two passes per game. Brown has accomplished that feat three times in the Destroyers first eight games, including snagging a pair of interceptions in this past weekend's 53-20 victory over the Philadelphia Soul. He returned the first interception five yards for a touchdown. The Destroyers are 2-1 when Brown intercepts two passes in a game. Brown has seven interceptions, which he has returned for 124 yards, on the season. The 124 yards is tops on the Destroyers single season and career record lists. Brown needs one more interception to tie the Destroyers single season record of eight, set by Dwaine Carpenter in 2003. If Brown intercepts four more passes this season, he will tie the Destroyers career record set by Carpenter, who intercepted 11 passes spanning the 2002 and 2003 seasons. For his Arena Football League career, Brown has intercepted nine passes and added eight pass breakups. He has 52 tackles (43UT-18AT), one forced fumble and four fumble recoveries as well.
ROOKIE HAVING OUTSTANDING SEASON
Destroyers fullback/linebacker Harold Wells is having one of the best rookie seasons in Destroyers history. In only eight games, the Gardner Webb product has rushed for 64 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries to lead the Destroyers ground game along with veteran Leroy Thompson. Wells leads the team in rushing touchdowns, while Thompson leads the team in rushing yards. On the season, Thompson has rushed 26 times for 75 yards and two scores. Wells rushed for a touchdown against the Soul this past weekend. Wells has rushed for a touchdown in three of the past four games. In each of the games that Wells has rushed for a score, the Destroyers have come out victorious.

DEFENSE PROVES WHY IT'S ONE OF AFL'S BEST
The Columbus Destroyers defense is one of the best in the Arena Football League. The Destroyers are one of only four teams in the League to allow its opponents to score less than 50 touchdowns this season. The Destroyers have allowed its opponents to score 46 touchdowns which is the third least in the AFL. Dallas has allowed a League fewest 43 touchdowns this season. On average, the Destroyers defense is allowing opponents to score 43.5 points per game. That ranks as second-best in the AFL, behind the Nashville Kats, who are allowing 42.4 points per game. This past weekend, the Destroyers held the Soul to 20 points. It was the second fewest points allowed in franchise history and the fewest since the team moved to Columbus in 2004. It was the lowest scoring output for the Soul in team history. The fewest points allowed by a Destroyers team came on Feb. 9, 2003, in a 44-16 victory over the Carolina Cobras.

PICK THAT OFF
The Columbus Destroyers secondary has had a field day this season when it comes to intercepting passes. Just as the team has done in every defensive category, the team is among the League leaders in interceptions. In just eight games, the Destroyers, as a team, have picked off 12 passes. That is good enough for third-best in the AFL, behind Grand Rapids (14) and Philadelphia (13). Defensive specialist Jerald Brown leads the team with seven interceptions on the season. Also adding interceptions are wide receiver/defensive back B.J. Barre, who has two, while defensive specialists Cecil Doggette and Brandon Hefflin have one each.

GOOD KNIGHT TO MAKE A DEBUT
Columbus Destroyers wide receiver/defensive back Marcus Knight had a solid debut in a Destroyers jersey. Knight, who made his Destroyers debut against his former team, the Philadelphia Soul, caught a pair of passes for 15 yards. Defensively, he had a solo tackle. It was the first time this season that Knight has been on the defensive side of the ball, as he was the offensive specialist for the Soul to start the 2006 season. Prior to joining the Destroyers, Knight was the Soul's top receiver with 44 receptions for 476 yards and four scores.
BIG RETURN ON INVESTMENT
The Columbus Destroyers continue to dominate on kickoff returns. Through eight games this season, the Destroyers have ranked in the Top 5 in all kickoff return categories. The Destroyers have returned 44 kickoffs for a total of 878 yards. The 878 yards is fourth-best in the Arena Football League. Their average of 22.0 is good enough for third-best behind Austin (21.3) and Arizona (20.6). The team has come awfully close each week in returning a kickoff for a touchdown, but is still awaiting their first kickoff return for a touchdown. Eight of the League's 18 teams have returned a kickoff for a touchdown this season. The Destroyers also have returned one missed field goal 28 yards. It came in Week 1 against the Grand Rapids Rampage. The Destroyers rank third in missed field goal returns.

SACK ATTACK
The Columbus Destroyers defense is not only a force in the secondary, but are putting pressure on the quarterback up front, especially this past weekend. The Destroyers had two sacks in their Eastern Division victory over the Philadelphia Soul. Both sacks came in the fourth quarter of Saturday's victory. Offensive/defensive lineman Kelvin Kinney had the first when Soul holder Matt Sauk bobbled the snap on a field goal and tried to elude the pressure by Kinney, but could not escape the 6-foot-8, 285-pound, grasp of Kinney, who brought Sauk down for a 16-yard loss. Later, offensive/defensive lineman Ken Jones sacked Soul starting quarterback Tony Graziani with 1 minute, 11 seconds remaining in the game. Jones' hit forced Graziani to fumble the ball and it set up the Destroyers final score of the game. On the season, the Destroyers have six sacks as a team. Kinney leads the team in sacks with 2.0.

WHEN IT HAPPENS, IT'S GOOD
Sometimes, the numbers don't lie. That has been the case a few times for the Destroyers this season. When the Destroyers score first they have yet to lose. The same holds true when the Destroyers are leading after the first, second and third quarters. The Destroyers have led after the first quarter three times, and won all three games. They have led at halftime three times and after the third quarter three times, again, holding on for victories in all three games. Another key to the rushing game is that when the Destroyers rush for 20 yards or more, they are 3-1 on the year. When quarterback John Kaleo completes passes for 100 yards or more to one receiver, the Destroyers boast a 3-0 record.

FAMILIAR FACES
For only the second time this season, the Destroyers will not have a familiar face on the opposite side of the field. In seven of the Destroyers first eight games, they have faced off against at least one player or coach who has either played or coached for the Buffalo or Columbus Destroyers. Last week, the Destroyers saw Soul offensive coordinator Jim Kubiak face his former team.
