AFL names Players of the Week

NEW YORK - Grand Rapids Rampage WR/DB JOSH BUSH, Dallas Desperados QB CLINT DOLEZEL and Los Angeles Avengers DS ANTUAN SIMMONS have been named Ironman, Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 8 of the 2006 season.
IRONMAN: Bush (5-9, 170, Western Michigan), who is in his third AFL season, posted 7.5 tackles, two pass breakups and an interception (29-yard return) on defense, while catching three touchdowns on three receptions for 36 yards in the Rampage's 59-49 home win over Utah on Thursday night. He also returned a kickoff six yards after grabbing the ball off a strange bounce. The last time a Rampage player earned AFL Ironman of the Week was Ricky Ross in Week 3 of the 2003 season.
OFFENSIVE: Dolezel (6-5, 205, East Texas State), who is in his 11th AFL season, earned the Offensive honor for the second-consecutive week. He tied the league record, which he co-owns, and set a new club mark with 11 touchdown passes to go with a season-high 353 passing yards on 24-of-30 attempts in Dallas' 87-62 win at Orlando on Sunday. His 80.0 completion percentage for the game was the second best in franchise history and his passing yards total enabled him to become just the third passer in league history to surpass 35,000 career passing yards (ANDY KELLY and AARON GARCIA). Under Dolezel's lead, the Desperados offense racked up the fourth-highest total net offensive yards and the club's highest total touchdown number (12) ever.
ADT DEFENSIVE: Simmons (5-10, 195, Southern California), who is in his second AFL season, posted 4.5 tackles, one interception for a 37-yard return for a touchdown, and two pass break-ups in Los Angeles' 60-57 win over then-No. 1 ranked Colorado on Sunday.
Ironman of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Talib Wise, Columbus' David Saunders, Dallas' Will Pettis, San Jose's Phil Glover and Tampa Bay's Lynaris Elpheage.
Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Sherdrick Bonner and Darrell Jones, Columbus' John Kaleo, Dallas' Terrill Shaw and San Jose's Mark Grieb.
ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Austin's Damon Mason, Arizona's Erin Damond, Columbus' Jerald Brown, Dallas' Hamin Milligan, Grand Rapids' Marvin Taylor, Nashville's Joe Minucci and Tampa Bay's Ernest Certain.
