
Columbus defeats Huntsville 92-81 Tuesday night

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Jan. 7) â Nate Johnson tallied a game-high 22 points along with 10 rebounds to lead Columbus to a 92-81 victory over Huntsville in National Basketball Development League action here Tuesday night at the Von Braun Center.
Johnson was one of four Riverdragons (9-12) in double figures as Tang Hamilton added 19 points, Nate Green 18 and Tyrone Washington 10. Jermaine Walker pace the Flight (13-10) with 18 points, as Brandon Williams tallied 16, Bakari Hendrix 12 and Lonnie Harrell 10.
With a 44-39 halftime advantage, Columbus extended its lead by virtue of converting 12-of-19 shots in the quarter for a blistering 63.2 percent to hold as much as a 20-point advantage in the quarter at 69-49.
Johnson scored 12 points in the period for the Riverdragons as the Riverdragons used a 16-6 run over the first five-plus minutes and outscored the Flight 27-19 in the period to take a 71-58 advantage heading into the last quarter.
The Riverdragons extended the lead by scoring the first six points of the final quarter, but the Flight rallied behind Walker, who scored 12 points in the period, to cut the gap down to nine. Columbus, though, hit 8-of-10 free throws in the final two minutes to help keep the lead.
Columbus shot 56.5 percent for the contest, hitting 35-of-62 from the floor, and was 18-of-24 over the final three periods from the foul line after starting the contest 2-for-6 in the first period. The Flight shot just 48.5 percent (32-of-62) and converted just 5-of-19 beyond the arc for 26.3 percent.
The Flight returns to action Friday when they play host to Roanoke at 7:30 p.m. CT Friday, while the Riverdragons take on North Charleston at home at 7 p.m. ET.
