Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC (2-3-2, 8 points) travels to Seattle to face Sounders FC (2-4-1, 7 points) tomorrow, April 29. The contest kicks off at 4:00 p.m. ET and is set to be televised regionally on ABC-6, Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and BCSN2, with Neil Sika and Dwight Burgess on the call. Coverage on ABC-6 begins at 4:00 p.m. ET. Exclusively on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and BCSN2, "Crew SC Matchday," the pre-match show hosted by Chris Doran, begins at 3:30 p.m. ET, with "Crew SC Post-Match" immediately following the action. Tomorrow's match also airs locally on the radio on CD102.5 FM in English, featuring simulcast audio from the television broadcast. La Mega 103.1 FM has the match airing in Spanish, with Juan Valladares behind the microphone. The club's official website, ColumbusCrewSC.com, is set to stream the English-language radio broadcast online.
Saturday's match is the first and only regular-season meeting between Columbus and Seattle this year as Crew SC visits Western Conference-based Sounders FC for the first time since 2014, when midfielder Justin Meram lifted Columbus to a 2-1 victory courtesy of a 94th-minute, game-winning goal. The Black & Gold are 2-1-2 all-time at Seattle, including wins in each of their last two trips to the Emerald City.
This is the lone road tilt in a stretch that sees Crew SC play four out of five Major League Soccer regular-season matches at home. The Black & Gold have won two straight contests, both at MAPFRE Stadium over New York City FC (April 16) and Houston (April 23). Following this match, Crew SC returns home to face Montreal (May 7) and Colorado (May 14) in League play in addition to its international friendly against Liga MX's Veracruz (May 11).
Last weekend against the Dynamo, forward Kei Kamara scored from the penalty spot as the Black & Gold kept their second clean sheet of the season in a 1-0 victory. In the match, Kamara registered three shots on goal, reaching the milestone of 250 shots on target for his MLS regular-season career. He became the 14th player in MLS history to attain that total.
Also against Houston, Crew SC Sporting Director and Head Coach reached the 75-match milestone (regular season) at the helm of the Black & Gold, becoming the fifth coach in club history to reach that mark. He is set to oppose one of the other four individuals to accomplish that feat this weekend in Seattle's Sigi Schmid. Schmid served as the Black & Gold boss from 2006 - 2008, coaching 92 games with a 34-33-25 regular-season record. Berhalter is 31-24-20 through 75 regular-season matches with Crew SC.
Columbus Crew SC currently leads all of Major League Soccer in passing accuracy (82.3%), with this weekend's opponent, Seattle, ranking in second (81.9%). Individually, midfielder Wil Trapp leads the League in successful passes (446) while midfielder Mohammed Saeid ranks first among all League players in passing accuracy (92.1%, minimum 100 passes attempted).
