Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC is slated to face Nicaraguan topflight club Real Esteli FC in the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 following the results of Wednesday night's tournament draw, which was held virtually. Crew SC is set to play Real Esteli FC across two legs, first traveling to Nicaragua before hosting the Nicaraguan side at historic Crew Stadium. Dates and times for the matches will be released by Concacaf in the near future.
The Crew qualified to the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League by virtue of winning the 2020 MLS Cup. The Black & Gold previously participated in the 2009-2010 and the 2010-2011 editions of the tournament, advancing to the Quarterfinals on both occasions. Real Esteli FC has won the last three Nicaraguan first division tournaments, including two Clausura tournaments (2019, 2020) and one Apertura tournament (2019). Real Esteli FC defeated Honduran side FC Motagua in the play-in round of the 2020 Concacaf League to secure a berth in the 2021 Concacaf Scotiabank Champions League - the club's seventh appearance in the tournament.
Should Crew SC advance to the Quarterfinals of the tournament, it would face the winner of the Round of 16 matchup between CF Monterrey (Mexico) and Club Atletico Pantoja (Dominican Republic) across two legs. Notably, the winner of the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League will secure a berth in the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan. Ticketing information for the Round of 16 Concacaf Champions League home leg against Real Esteli FC will be announced at a later date.
The Black & Gold's New Crew Stadium is slated to open in July of this year. Supporters interested in learning more about purchasing 2021 Season Ticket Memberships at Crew SC's new world-class facility should visit CrewStadium.com to book an appointment.
