
Columbus Beats Knoxville 5-1 as Williamson Gets Hat Trick

Bryce Williamson netted a hat trick to lead the Columbus Cottonmouths over the Knoxville Ice Bears, 5-1.
Williamson got on the scoresheet 5:34 into the second period. He then added goals at 16:31 into the third and at 16:57 into the third.
Knoxville was stymied by Columbus' netminder Shannon Szabados, who stopped 31 shots during the victory. The solid play of Szabados will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.04.
The 35 shots that the Cottonmouths put on net surpassed Columbus' average of 30.1 shots per game this season.
Columbus also got points from Matt Gingera, who also had one goal and two assists. Columbus also got a goal from Shawn Bates as well. In addition, Columbus received assists from Ben OQuinn, Louis Belisle, Andy Willigar, Chris Bailer, and Neilsson Arcibal, who contributed one each.
The Ice Bears put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 16.2 they average per game.
Knoxville was led by Matthew Paton, who scored the team's only goal. Paton scored on the power play 6:45 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Columbus. The Ice Bears earned a power play opportunity when Kyle Johnson was put in the box for cross checking. Ben Power picked up the assist.
The Cottonmouths incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Curtis Martinu rejected 30 shots on goal for Knoxville. The Ice Bears incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
