Columbia Fireflies Homestand Preview April 8-10

COLUMBIA, SC - The Columbia Fireflies have broken camp and open up their season tomorrow at 7:05 pm vs the Augusta GreenJackets (Atlanta Braves Class-A Affiliate). The opening series will be a three-game set, taking place Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

In 2021, The Fireflies compiled a 17-19 record against the GreenJackets after splitting the opening series of the season (3-3) at SRP Park last May.

Friday, April 8: Fireflies vs GreenJackets at 7:05 pm

Saturday, April 9: Fireflies vs GreenJackets at 6:05 pm

Sunday, April 10: Fireflies vs GreenJackets at 5:05 pm

To start the season, the GreenJackets are carrying three of the Braves' top 30 prospects on their roster, according to MLB.com. Infielder Cal Conley leads the group. Selected in the fourth round of the 2021 draft, Conley saw his draft stock rise after a promising season at Texas Tech where he launched 15 homers. The roster also boasts AJ Smith-Shawver, who was a high school teammate of Bobby Witt Jr. Smith-Shawyer has a projectable fastball that has reached 98 MPH, but sits in the low-90s regularly and he keeps hitters off balance with an above average slider. Lastly, the team will start the season with Adam Shoemaker. The southpaw is the Braves' 26th-best prospect, according to MLB.com, and stands at a towering 6'6". The 19-year-old has a fastball that is in the mid-90s and a slider and change-up that he pairs with the domineering stuff.

OPENING NIGHT: You've waited through an entire winter and it's finally here! Opening Night kicks off when the gates open at 5:30 pm at Segra Park April 8. You'll want to stay late after the game too, because we'll finish of the night with a dazzling fireworks display.

A ROYAL CELEBRATION: We're all thankful for the return of baseball season, but we want to celebrate something with you. It's the Fireflies second season as a Kansas City Royals' affiliate, and we're kicking out all the stops to throw a party at Segra Park to celebrate. Our players will wear our special powder blue jerseys for the event and we'll close out the evening with the best pyrotechnical display you can find in the Midlands. Gates open at 5 pm for the 6:05 pm contest.

SUNDAY FUNDAY PRESENTED BY WINTHROP UNIVERSITY: It's almost time for the first Sunday Funday of the year! Gates open at 4 pm as the first pitch for the final game of the homestand is at 5:05 pm. You'll want to get to the game early, because from 4:00-4:15 two Fireflies players will be signing autographs for the fans. After that, the game will be packed with fun promotions and afterwards, kids will be able to run the bases, thanks to Winthrop University!
