San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- Rookie catcher Collin Janssen hit a walk-off RBI single in his second career at-bat to give the Colts a thrilling 14-13, extra-inning victory over the Abilene Prairie Dogs Saturday night at Foster Field.
With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th, Janssen poked a base hit through the left side of the infield. Shortstop Landon Camp scored from third on the single. Camp led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt.
The Colts trailed 10-5 in the bottom of the fourth, after surrendering eight runs in the top of the inning. However, San Angelo battled back and completed their first comeback by taking a 12-11 lead in the eighth. Abilene regained the lead in the top of the ninth at 13-12, thanks to a two-RBI single by third baseman Wilson Batista. Batista went 3-for-5 with a home run and six RBIs.
Centerfielder Ronnie Gaines evened the game at 13 with a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the ninth. It was his seventh home run of the year.
Colts closer Erik Draxton (3-1) held Abilene scoreless in the top of the 10th, and therefore earned the win. Abilene reliever Derrick Dingeman (0-1) suffered his first loss by giving up the winning run.
The win improves San Angelo to 31-30, while the loss drops Abilene to 22-37. This series continues with a doubleheader Sunday night at Foster Field, beginning at 5:05 p.m. The Colts and Prairie Dogs will play two seven-inning games to make up for Thursday's rainout.
It will be WTU Buyout Night and a Grand Slam Sunday, sponsored by Fiddlestrings. Tickets to both games are free, courtesy of WTU, and one lucky fan will win a 47" HDTV, thanks to Fiddlestrings. The first 500 fans through the front gates will also receive a free hot dog. Gates open at 4:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 5:05 p.m.
The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
