Coastal Bend Thunder News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas---The Colts earned the first sweep, of the 2009 season, after defeating the Coastal Bend Thunder 3-2 in ten innings. San Angelo (31-13) earned it's fourth straight victory and all of the wins came by one run.

Brett Lester (3-2) threw one inning in relief to notch his third victory of the year. Carlos Rangel (0-3) suffered the loss as he gave up a game-winning single to Josh Collazo.

Pitching ruled for the first seven innings. Kenny Elkind was outstanding, but he did not earn the decision. The Angelo State graduate allowed one run in his fourth professional outing. Ricardo Morales nearly matched Elkind; Coastal Bend's starter tossed seven strong frames while surrendering two runs on the night.

Unlike the past two nights, San Angelo took the first lead of the game. Butch Ballez led off the third inning with a double to left. After Travis Calloway and Ronnie Gaines recorded outs, Jason Diaz blooped an RBI single to left-center.

The home team added another run, in the next inning, as Jason Landreth launched his 11th home run of the season. The score was 2-0 San Angelo.

In the fifth inning, Coastal Bend began nibbling away at the lead. Carlos Rodriguez smacked a solo shot to left to cut the road teams' deficit in half. The Rodriguez blast was the first hit of the game against Elkind.

San Angelo maintained the edge until the ninth. Leivi Ventura started the rally, against Colts closer Chace Vacek, with a single. Ventura advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Manny Mejia. After Bryan Vickers lined out to left, Amadeo Zazueta brought home the tying run with a single to center.

The Coastal Bend Thunders' effort proved inconsequential. With one out and Diaz stationed at second, Collazo pulled a curve ball through the left side for the winning side.

The Thunder travel to Edinburg for tomorrow night's game against the Roadrunners @7:05pm.
