Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - Laredo Broncos pitchers shut down Amarillo Dillas bats through seven innings, but two crucial errors in the eighth inning lead to 12 Dillas batting and eight runs scoring in the frame for a 9-5 comeback win in front of a record crowd of 7,642 at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa on Sunday night.

Dillas reliever Robbie Wooley (3-2) pitched the last out of the eighth before the comeback and finished off with a perfect ninth for the win. Broncos reliever Fernando Rijo (0-2) got the loss as his runner in the ninth scored the go-ahead run.

Both starting pitchers would hold the other team scoreless until the fifth when Laredo broke through on Dillas starter Justin Phillips. Andres Santos led off with a single, followed by an O.J Garza double to put two runners in scoring position. Later in the inning, a Jamie Morales single scored Santos while Garza came across on a Ryan Flynn groundout for a 2-0 Broncos lead.

Amarillo would finally get on the board in the seventh as Justin Wenger was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a Willie James walk. Keanon Simon stepped up and singled to left to score Wenger to cut the lead in half at 2-1.

Laredo would respond with three more runs in the eighth as Argelis Nunez doubled in two runs, while Santos doubled to score Nunez for a 5-1 Broncos lead.

Down four, the Dillas put together a massive eighth inning. Carlos Figueroa led off with a walk and Terrance McClain followed with a groundball to Morales. The shortstop flipped to second baseman Ryan Flynn but he couldn't handle the ball to keep both runners safe. One batter later, Stantrel Smith tripled to right field to score both runners and bring Amarillo within two. Eric Brown singled to score Smith, followed by a Wenger single. Rijo would be replaced with closer Franklyn Gracesqui, who intentionally walked James to load the bases, but Simon sent a ball to deep left field that was caught, but scored Brown to tie the game. Andrew Wong followed with an RBI single to score Wenger to take the lead, while James scored on another error. Figueroa batted again and singled home Wong to move Amarillo up by three. Gracesqui left for Julio Pinto, who allowed an RBI triple by McClain for the eighth run in the inning to move the Dillas up by a score of 9-5.

Wooley pitched a scoreless ninth to preserve the comeback win of 9-5.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 24-20, while the Broncos fall to 15-29. Monday, Amarillo will host the first-place San Angelo Colts for the opening game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:50 pm on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
