
WhiteWings Bullpen Hit Hard in Loss

Edinburg - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings' bullpen gave up six runs in the seventh inning in a 10-3 loss to the Edinburg Roadrunners tonight at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
With the WhiteWings (21-23) down 4-3 entering the seventh inning, Todd Lutz, who recorded the final out of the sixth, gave up singles to Wilmer Pino, Robert Matlock and Carlos Hereaud, scoring a run and ending his night. Juan Jimenez started his outing by hitting Hunter Owen to load the bases. Bryon Smith followed with an RBI-single on which Hereaud also scored after the ball was bobbled by leftfielder Rico Santana. Vincent Blue hit a two-run triple and Eric Gonzalez hit an RBI-ground out to make it 10-3 Roadrunners (20-24).
Making his first start of the season for the WhiteWings, Wendy Rosa (0-1) pitched three scoreless innings, striking out five, before allowing a home run to Smith with one out in the fourth to make it 1-0 Roadrunners.
In the bottom of the fifth, Osiel Flores drew a leadoff walk and Nick Aranda was hit by a pitch. After a sacrifice bunt, Rosa intentionally walked Matlock for the second time in the game. Carlos Hereaud followed with a sacrifice fly. With Hunter Owen batting, Matlock stole second and the throw was dropped and then kicked by second baseman Agustin Septimo, allowing Aranda to score, making it 3-0.
With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Blue walked and Gonzalez was hit by a pitch. Lutz came in and gave up a single to Flores to make it 4-0.
Danny Rondon (2-0) threw six innings of one-hit ball before running into trouble in the seventh. Brian Nichols singled, Alberto Cruz walked and Angel Reyes singled to load the bases. Juan Cabrera followed with a two-run single, moving to second on the throw. Sandy DeLeon hit an RBI-single to score Reyes, but Cabrera had to hold at third. Bryan Heaston came in and got Casey Allen to pop-out in the infield before getting Septimo to ground into an inning-ending double play to keep the score 4-3 Roadrunners.
The WhiteWings travel to Veterans Field for the first game of a four- game series with the Laredo Broncos tomorrow night at 7:35. Left- hander Carlos Artiles (1-0) is expected to face right-handed pitcher Tano Tijerina (1-2).
