Barrie Colts News Release
Barrie, ON- The Barrie Colts today announced they have made a four-player deal with the Belleville Bulls. The Colts have sent Evan Brophey, defenceman Steve Spade and a 3rd Round Pick in 2006 to Belleville in exchange for centre Mike Roelofsen and left-winger Michael Lombardi.
Roelofsen, 17, finished eighth last season in league rookie scoring with 16 goals and 24 assists. Belleville's 1st Round Pick in 2003, Roelofsen has six assists through 13 games this season with Belleville. The 5.11, 177-pound native of Chatham was the third highest scoring 16-year old in the league last season. Lombardi, 17, joins the club after he registered (8-5-13) totals in 49 games last season with Belleville and Plymouth. A 6.01, 195-pound native of Richmond Hill, ON, Lombardi was Plymouth's 1st Round Pick in the 2003 Priority Selection, and has one goal to go along with nine penalty minutes in seven games this season.
"In our opinion, Roelofsen is one of the top 17-year old centres in the league, who competes hard every night," said General Manager Mike McCann. "In Lombardi, we obtain a power forward who drives the net and finishes his checks. Both players will bring youth and energy into our lineup."
Brophey joined Barrie 2002-03 after they selected him in the 2nd Round of the 2002 Priority Selection. He has (3-7-10) totals in 10 games this season, and accumulated 61 points (29g-32a) in 138 career games with the Colts. Spade was Barrie's 1st Round Pick in the 2003 Priority Selection. He has one assist this year in ten games after he registered (3-5-8) totals throughout 60 games last season as a rookie on defence.
Lombardi and Roelofsen will join the team Wednesday in preparation for their game Thursday when Barrie hosts the Mississauga Ice Dogs. (7:30 p.m.)
