San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas---The 2011 season started on a sour note for the San Angelo Colts, as they dropped the home opener 8-4 to the newly formed McAllen Thunder in front of 3,949 fans at Foster Field Wednesday.
Five-year veteran Brian Henschel started for the Colts and after cruising through three innings with a 3-0 lead, he gave up seven runs in a fourth inning he could not escape. The Thunder never scored more than one run on a single hit, but were able to keep the merry-go-round moving for 12 hitters.
For the Colts, Ronnie Gaines (1) homered to put the first run of the game on the board and Landon Camp (1) went yard to start the fourth, but it was not enough to bring the Colts back. Camp and Daryl Jones each had three hits on the night for San Angelo.
Thunder starter Justin Jordan (1-0, 7.20) earned the win after allowing four runs in five innings, while Henschel (0-1, 14.73) took the loss after he gave up seven runs, six earned, in three and two-thirds innings pitched.
The Colts take the field again Thursday night in game two of the four game series against McAllen, when left-hander Logan Williamson will take the mound for the Colts against Thunder right-hander Alec Lewis. It's a Miller Lite $1 Beer night and tickets are still available by calling 94-COLTS or by visiting sanangelocolts.com.
