San Angelo Colts News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas - Jason Landreth continued his hot hitting with a pair of homers, the third straight day he has gone deep, as the San Angelo Colts demolished the Harlingen WhiteWings for the third straight day, beating Harlingen 12-2 in front of 1,550 fans at Foster Field.
Brian Henschel (8-3) broke a tie reached less than 24 hours earlier with Logan Williamson for the team and league lead in complete games with his fourth, winning his eighth start in his last nine overall. He struck out six and only had four runners reach third during the game. He allowed 10 hits and only walked one batter. He tired some in the ninth, giving up a leadoff homer to Joel Gonzalez and allowing his only walk of the game, but he got out of a bases-loaded, one-out to jam to finish the game.
The Colts (39-25) scored early again, this time with a seven-spot in the second inning off Brock Nehls (0-1). The WhiteWings righty allowed the first five hitters of the frame to all reach and score, with Landreth's first three-run homer providing the first blow of the inning. Then Wyn Diggs walked and Jack Chapman picked up his first hit as a Colt on a hit-and-run infield single. After strikeouts by Charley Belew and Bryan Frichter, John Anderson picked up an RBI single, Jose Torres reached on a fielder's choice, Andres Rodriguez singled for the second time in the inning to bring home two runs, and Aaron Cone brought home another with a single to cap off the seven-run, 12-batter inning.
From there it was all cruising for the Colts, scoring two more in the fourth and three in the fifth, as Landreth went deep to right-center for his second three-run bomb of the game. He finished 2-for-3 with the two jacks and six RBIS. The Colts designated hitter has destroyed the WhiteWings (18-48) in this series, with seven hits, four homers, and 11 RBIs in the last three games. On the season, Landreth now has four homers and 15 RBIs in 36 at-bats since joining San Angelo.
Andres Rodriguez also had his third four-hit game of the season, picking up four singles in his first four trips to the plate.
Nehls, making his second start of the year for Harlingen, lasted just four innings, allowing 11 hits and nine runs, while walking three and striking out seven. The Colts also got three runs in two innings off reliever Angel Cordero before Toro Trevino threw two scoreless frames to finish up.
Notes: Diggs extended his now 34-game on-base streak, which leads the United League, with a walk in the second ...Cone extended his on-base streak to 22...This is the fifth complete game and second in a row thrown by the Colts against the 'Wings this season, as San Angelo had three straight at Foster Field from June 20-22. Henschel had one in that series as well...Tyrone Pendergrass (shoulder) sat out against righty pitching. He has played once, on Saturday, since he hurt his shoulder diving at Laredo on July 22...the 103-degree temperature at game time was the highest at Foster Field this season.
The Colts continue their six-game set with Harlingen on Monday, July 28, at 7:05 p.m. for the fourth and final Sure-Win Monday of the season, sponsored by Sherwin Williams. If the Colts do not win, all fans leaving the ballpark will receive a free ticket to the Colts' game on Friday, August 1.
