
Broncos Blow Out Aces in Series Opener

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos had 18 hits as they beat the Alexandria Aces by a score of 13-2 on Sunday night at Veterans Field. The Broncos continue on their short home stand with the middle game of a 3 game against the Alexandria Aces on Monday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Broncos grabbed the early lead in the 1st inning. Sean Gamble led off with a single and went to 2nd when the centerfielder bobbled the ball. Then with 1 out, Luany Sanchez hit a rbi single to give Laredo the 1-0 lead.
The Broncos would tack on a run in the 2nd inning. With 1 out, Ben Tinius doubled and scored on an Anthony Bennett single which made the score 2-0.
The Aces threatened to score with runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out in the 3rd inning. Bryan Sabatella hit a fly ball that was caught by Anthony Bennett. The runner at 3rd Blake Butler tagged and tried to score on the play, but Bennett's throw was right on the money as he threw him out to keep the 2 run lead.
The Broncos would add on in the 3rd inning. Edgard Clemente led off with a single and scored from 1st on a triple by Dwayne White. White would then score on an Arnoldo Ponce sacrifice fly which would make the score 4-0.
Angel Guzman would come into the game for the Aces in the 4th inning, and the Broncos would get to him in the 5th inning. With 1 out, Edgard Clemente hit a solo home run, his 13th of the season. That extended the Broncos lead to 5-0.
The Aces would finally get on the scoreboard in the 6th inning against Broncos starter Gregorio Martinez. Luis Guance started off the inning reaching base on a error by shortstop Arnoldo Ponce. That was followed by a single by Selwyn Langaigne. Bryan Sabatella then hit a rbi single scoring Guance and moving Langaigne to 2nd. After 2 straight strikeouts, Madison Edwards singled and when the relay throw got by catcher Luany Sanchez which allowed Langainge to score. That would make the score 5-2.
B.J. Litchfield would come into the game for the Aces and run into trouble in the Broncos half of the 6th. Ben Tinius led off with a single and went to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Anthony Bennett. Sean Gamble then came up and hit a double scoring Tinius. Ivan Reyes then singled in Gamble from 2nd as that gave Laredo the 7-2 lead.
Gregorio Martinez pitched a great outing in his 7 innings of work. He gave up 2 runs, both of which were unearned, on 7 hits. He walked 3 batters and struck out 10. David Wasylak would come into the game in the 8th,and retire the 3 men he faced.
The Broncos would blow the game open in their half of the 8th. With 1 out, Edgard Clemente doubled and then scored on a single by Dwayne White. Arnoldo Ponce then singled moving White to 2nd. Matt Imwalled then walked to load the bases. Ben Tinius then hit a single scoring White, but the ball got by the left fielder Madison Edwards which allowed both Ponce and Imwalle to score. Then with 2 outs, Tinius would score on a single by Sean Gamble. Josue Gonzalez pinched hit for Luany Sanchez with a rbi single scoring Gamble That extended the Broncos lead to 13-2.
Wasylak would come out and pitch a scoreless 9th inning as Laredo picked up the victory by a score of 13-2.
The Broncos scored 13 runs on 18 hits and committed 3 errors, while the Aces scored 8 runs on 8 hits and committed 2 errors.
The Broncos improve to 33-37 on the season. Laredo now has a 1 ½ game lead over the Edinburg Coyotes for the 4th seed as they lost to the Amarillo Dillas. The Broncos will be back in action on Monday when they play game 2 of a 3 game series against the Alexandria Aces in Laredo at 7:35.
