San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- The San Angelo Colts announced Sunday they have acquired Danny Hernandez from the Evansville Otters of the independent Frontier League in exchange for future considerations, and have signed Jason Diaz.
Hernandez played in San Angelo last year, and Diaz last donned a Colts uniform in 2009.
Hernandez was traded to Evansville in exchange for outfielder Jamar Walton on March 29. He was inactive during his entire tenure at Evansville, and therefore did not get any playing time. Last year Hernandez batted .271 with six home runs and 27 RBIs in 67 games with the Colts.
The 23-year-old was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cincinnati Reds in 2009. Hernandez spent two years in the Reds' organization, splitting time between their Rookie Ball Gulf Coast League, Arizona League and Pioneer League affiliates.
Now in his fourth professional season, Hernandez has a career .253 average with 10 homers and 54 RBIs in 122 games.
Diaz started the season with the Fort Worth Cats, and hit .259 (7-for- 27) with an RBI in seven games. He began his career with San Angelo in 2007, and also played for the Colts in 2009.
In 2007, Diaz hit .290 with 12 RBIs in 34 games for the Colts. Then in 2009 he posted a .287 average with 20 RBIs in 46 games.
Now in his sixth pro season, the 27-year-old Diaz has a career .299 batting average with 66 RBIs in 205 games.
In order to make room for Hernandez and Diaz on the active roster, the Colts placed utility fielder Davis Page on the Inactive List. Page has a .208 average with a homer and one RBI in eight games this season.
The Colts conclude their two-game series against Abilene tonight at 6:05 p.m. at Foster Field. Gates open at 5:05 p.m.
The San Angelo Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
