Colorado 14ers News Release

DENVER - February 17, 2009 - The Colorado 14ers set a new franchise record for points in a game with a 141-118 win over the Iowa Energy at the Broomfield Event Center Tuesday night. Seven 14ers scored double figures as Colorado won its sixth straight on the home court to improve to 20-8 on the season.

The first meeting of the year between the two highest scoring teams in the NBA Development League certainly didn't disappoint the fans in Broomfield. Iowa and Colorado combined for 73 and 74 points in the second and third quarters, with the 14ers pulling away thanks to a 40 point effort in the third period. Billy Thomas led all scorers with a season-high 30 points to go along with six rebounds, seven assists, and seven steals in the Colorado win.

"I think our guys do an unbelievable job of making the extra pass and sharing the ball, starting with our veterans Billy Thomas and Josh Davis," said 14ers head coach Bob MacKinnon. "They look for the open man and we take good shots because we have unselfish players."

The Energy started the third quarter by cutting a 14 point Colorado lead in half in the opening three minutes. But a Billy Thomas steal and 3-pointer pushed the 14ers lead back to 10 with 8:09 to play, and Iowa was never within single digits the rest of the way.

Colorado posted 31 assists while converting 47 of 99 field goal attempts, and out-rebounded the Energy 53-37 on the night. Dominique Coleman had another strong all around effort with 23 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and two steals, while Josh Davis added 21 points and 13 rebounds in the win.

Iowa was led by Brian Evans 21 points and six assists off the bench. Othyus Jeffers and Curtis Stinson added 20 points apiece in the loss.

Iowa's road trip continues in Idaho on Thursday night, while Colorado will travel to Austin for a Sunday afternoon tip with the Toros.
