Amarillo, TX 1/27/10 - The Amarillo Gorillas could not stave off the Colorado attack Wednesday night, losing 6-3.

Amarillo's All-Star defenseman Andrew Smale notched the game's first goal at the 3:36 mark with a wrist shot from the top of the near circle. Colorado answered thirty seconds later, as forward Ed McGrane flipped his shot past Gorillas goaltender Tuomas Lohtander. Jason Beeman, Chris Cloud, and Neil Smith all fought for Amarillo, as they ended the period tied at one.

The Gorillas earned a power-play marker at the 3:19 mark when Andrew Smale sent his shot form the near point past Colorado netminder Mike Mole. The Eagles countered with goals from Jay Birnie & Ryan Tobler and had the 3-2 lead heading into the third period.

Colorado added two goals through the first 6:41 of the third period and had the 5-2 lead. Gorillas forward Stuart MacRae scored with less than two minutes in the game to make the contest interesting, but fell 6-3 after surrendering an empty net goal. Final score Colorado 6 Amarillo 3.

Andrew Smale's first period goal was his first since 12/26/09...Stuart MacRae has 11 points over his last 9 games...Tuomas Lohtander has appeared in 8 of Amarillo's last 12 tilts.
