Ramsay's Hat Trick Caps Overtime Comeback Win

(McAllen, TX) - Mike Ramsay's hat trick included the game-tying and game-winning goals as the Odessa Jackalopes topped the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in overtime, 5-4, on Wednesday night at Dodge Arena. The win was Odessa's seventh straight, and the 500th of the career of Odessa head coach, Paul Gillis.

Odessa's record improves to 32-6-3 on the year. All five of their goals came in the third period and overtime.

Ramsay's hat trick and game-winner came 1:08 into the overtime period on a two-on-none with Dave Van Drunen, who added the assist. His second goal of the game came with 1:39 left in regulation to tie the game at 4-4 on a one-timer from the top of the left circle. Odessa had the extra attacker on the ice for the tying goal.

The Killer Bees held a 2-0 advantage entering the third period from first period goals by Daymen Rycroft and Aaron Lee. Both teams combined for seven goals in the third frame beginning with Collin Circelli's deflection goal at 4:22 for Odessa. Rio Grande Valley regained the two-goal cushion from Sean Muncy at 6:58. Circelli answered back with his second of the game at 10:01 to make it 3-2. The Bees then scored a shorthanded goal on Zak McClellan's slap shot from the top of the right circle at 11:34 to take a 4-2 lead. Ramsay recorded his first goal of the game on the power play at 12:19 to close the gap to 4-3.

Wylie Rogers stopped 43 shots for the Bees in the loss, while Odessa's Juha Toivonen was 21 of 25. The win was Toivonen's ninth straight in net for the Jackalopes.

Circelli and Jeff Pierce each recorded the 100th points of their career in the game. Rycroft's opening goal came just 26 seconds into the game. Odessa wraps up their season series against the Bees going 5-0-1 in their six meetings. The Jackalopes close their season-long road trip winning seven of the eight games.

The Jackalopes host the Arizona Sundogs on Friday at 7:05 PM at the Ector County Coliseum. Former Jackalopes player, Donnie Margettie will be entered into the Jackalopes Hall of Fame in a pregame ceremony. The action can be heard on 102.1 Jack FM.
