TONIGHT'S GAME

The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (17-16-4, 39 pts) begin a stretch of four games in five nights with a Wednesday night showdown with the Odessa Jackalopes (31-6-3, 65 pts). RGV is winless in two games (0-1-1) and last played on Sunday at Tulsa. The Oilers edged the Bees 2-1 in a shootout, the second time the teams played to that result this season. Odessa is the CHL's top team, leading in wins, points and goals scored. They also have the top-ranked power play in the league. The Jacks have won six in a row and eight of their last 10.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

. COMING UP --- RGV plays four games in five days beginning tonight. The team travels to Bossier-Shreveport right after tonight's game. They play the Mudbugs on Friday, travel home to face Allen on Saturday and then visit Corpus Christi on Sunday at 5 p.m.

. TIGHT SOUTHERN CONFERENCE RACE (as of Jan. 27) --- A total of seven points separate the No. 3-7 spots in the South.The top five teams in each conference make the playoffs. RGV is five points off the No. 3 spot held by Texas.

. BUSY BUSY BEES --- Starting Jan. 19, the team plays 10 games in 19 days. That includes runs of five games in eight days (Jan. 24-31) and a 3-in-3 from Feb. 4-6 that sees the team start in Laredo on Thursday, come home vs. Laredo on Friday and then bus to Allen for a Saturday game at 7:30 p.m.

. CLOSE SHAVE --- RGV has been involved in 18 games decided by one goal this season and has a record of 9-4-5 in those contests. Goalie Andy Franck is 6-1-4 in those decisions while Wylie Rogers is 3-3-1.

. HOME COOKIN' NEEDED --- RGV is 1-2-1 in its last four home games. Three of those games have been decided by one goal including a 3-2 win over Colorado and a 4-3 loss to CHL-leader Odessa.

. CHALLENGES OF THE ROAD --- The Killer Bees are 1-3-1 in their last five road games and have been outscored 25-9. After tonight, six of the team's next 10 games are away from The Hive.

. FOUR'S STILL MORE --- RGV is 13-0-0 when scoring four or more goals this season. When scoring six or more, the Killer Bees are 6-0-0.

. WHEN FOUR IS LESS --- Out of Rio's 15 regulation losses, 13 have come when opponents score four or more goals.

. A PREMIUM ON GOALS --- Since a 7-3 win over MIS on Dec. 20, RGV has scored four or more goals just three times. In the last 14 games (dating back to Dec. 19) the Killer Bees are averaging 2.2 goals per game (32 goals scored).

. POWER UP --- RGV's power play goal on Jan. 16 snapped an 0-for-18 skid that went back to the team's second power play on Dec. 31 at ARZ. The Killer Bees extended that momentum to go 3-for-8 vs. Corpus Christi on Jan. 19. Since then, the team is 0-for-7 in two games.

. MULTI-POINT LEADERS --- Jesse Bennefield leads the team with 16 multi-point games while Grant Goeckner-Zoeller has 11 multi-point games.

. SWEAZEY ON INJURED RESERVE, RYCROFT ACTIVATED --- Daymen Rycroft was activated from the 14-day injured reserve on Jan. 15 after missing eight games. Matt Sweazey was placed on the 14-day IR.

. BEES AMONG CHL LEADERS (as of 1/27/10) --- Grant Goeckner-Zoeller (T5 scoring, 4th goals).Jesse Bennefield (T5 scoring, T2 goals).Sean Muncy (3rd rookie scoring, 2nd rookie assists). Nathan Ansell (5th D scoring, 2nd PPA).Andy Franck (3rd minutes played, 2nd saves, 8th save%).

. INJURY UPDATE --- F Justin Kanigan and F Matt Sweazey are on the injured reserve list.D Jason Seerey has been granted leave by the CHL.

. ALL-TIME MARK --- RGV is 180-196-42 (418 games).
