Colorado Eagles News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Colorado Eagles defeated the Bakersfield Condors, 5-3, sweeping the weekend set between the teams. Kevin Ulanski's four point night (1-3-4) helped lead the Eagles' offense, as each of the veteran forward's helpers came on the team's three third period goals. Kyle Jones picked up his second win in as many nights, giving him 19 victories on the season (second in the ECHL).
For the second night in a row, the Eagles struck first when Adam Chorneyko fed Steve Haddon on the doorstep at 4:20 of the first frame. Colorado had a chance to go up 2-0 midway through the period when Michael Forney was awarded a penalty shot following a shorthanded breakaway, but Bryan Pitton stopped his backhand attempt and swayed momentum Bakersfield's way.
Just minutes later, Tyler Helfrich found Jesse Gimblett on a 2-on-1 rush to tie the game. Then Erik Burgdoerfer gave the home team a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission with a tally in the final minute of the period as a loose puck squirted into the slot, giving the defenseman a prime scoring opportunity.
The teams played an even second period, with Ulanski scoring the frame's only goal to tie the game at 2 at 14:09 with an unassisted effort. His hit below the goal line freed up the puck, which he collected before circling into the slot and beating Pitton.
The Condors re-took the lead at 4:46 of the third period when Peter Boyd beat Forney in front of the Eagles' net and put the puck past Jones to make it 3-2. But at 8:24, Ben Chiarot picked up his second goal in as many games by working a give-and-go with Ulanski that left him all alone behind the Bakersfield defense.
Just under three minutes later, Ulanski led a rush up the ice that resulted in Riley Nelson netting the game-winner, as the former found the latter alone in the low slot after a miscommunication by the Condors' defensemen. And with 1:18 left in the game, Ulanski worked another give-and-go with a defenseman, this time setting up Aaron Schneekloth for a one-timer from the high slot that gave Colorado an insurance goal on a late power play.
The Eagles will now return home where there next games will be at the Budweiser Events Center against the Stockton Thunder on Friday & Saturday.
