
Colorado Springs Shuts the Door on Iowa

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (25-45) suffered a 5-0 shutout at the hands of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (38-32) to open a five-game series, Thursday at Principal Park. The loss extended the I-Cubs' losing streak to seven.
Jen-Ho Tseng (2-8) logged his best outing of the season, allowing just two earned runs on three hits through 5.0 innings. Both Colorado Springs' runs came in the second. Tseng allowed the first two base runners of the inning to reach and the scoreless game was foiled on an Andres Blanco RBI double. The second run of the inning scored on a one-out groundout from Aaron Wilkerson.
The Sky Sox doubled their edge on Shae Simmons in the seventh, making the most of back-to-back walks. RBI by Nick Ramirez and Nate Orf put Colorado Springs up 4-0. The visiting team added an insurance run in the ninth to solidify the final score.
Iowa out-hit Colorado Springs 7-6, but wasn't able to collect. The team went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and grounded into three double plays.
Victor Caratini led Iowa's offense, going 3-for-4 with a double. Mark Zagunis also reached three times with a 1-for-2 game and two walks.
Sky Sox starter Aaron Wilkerson (2-2) took the win, allowing three hits and no runs through 5.1 innings.
