Charlotte Independence News Release

COMMERCE CITY, CO - The Charlotte Independence today announced that forward Caleb Calvert has been recalled by the club's MLS affiliate the Colorado Rapids.

In eight USL games this season, Calvert has scored three goals and added one assist. His seven points are tied for the Independence team lead with midfielder Enzo Martinez. Calvert was named to the USL Team of the Week Bench in Week 7 following his game-winning goal in Charlotte's 1-0 victory over FC Montreal.

Calvert also appeared in last week's 2-0 victory over the PDL Charlotte Eagles in the Second Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. He was aggressive in the final third and helped set up both of his team's scoring plays.

The 19-year-old forward spent the majority of the 2015 season with the Independence as well, seeing action in 20 of the club's 28 games. Though he made just two starts, Calvert recorded two goals and two assists for the Independence last season.

Calvert was acquired by the Rapids in the Chivas USA dispersal draft of 2014. The Southern California native originally was signed as a Homegrown Player by Chivas USA in July 2013, at the age of 16, making him the youngest player in club history to sign a professional contact.

The Independence currently sit tied for fourth place in the Eastern Conference with a 5-2-2 record (17 points) and are riding a six-match unbeaten streak in USL play. Charlotte's next match is a road contest with Orlando City B at Titan Soccer Complex on Saturday, May 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm ET and the match will be live on YouTube. The Independence will return home to Ramblewood Stadium on Saturday, June 4, to face Toronto FC II.
