Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, IL - Dan Sullivan and Steve Haddon both scored and Andrew Penner made 23 saves as the Colorado Eagles defeated the host Quad City Mallards 2-1 Saturday night.
Sullivan gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead when he buried Adam Chorneyko's centering pass just over a minute into the second period. With Colorado on the power play, Haddon pounced on a rebound to stretch the gap to 2-0 at 6:39 of the second.
The Mallards cut the deficit to a single goal with 6:12 left in the third period when Tyler Shelast drove a rebound home from the slot after Penner kicked out Shane Lovdahl's drive from the blue line.
Quad City pulled goaltender David Brown (29 saves) for an extra attacker late in the third, but could not produce an equalizer despite pressuring the Eagles in the final minute.
Shelast returned to the Mallard lineup Saturday evening after coming off injured reserve (lower body injury) earlier in the day, while Quad City forward Paul Kelly was granted Central Hockey League leave Saturday.
