
Bucks, Benson Stomp \'Bugs 5-1

BOSSIER CITY, LA- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 5-1 Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center. The Bucks snap their three-game winless streak as they improve to 14-17-6 (34 points).
Hans Benson scored two goals and Torrie Jung stopped 29 of 30 shots he faced as the Bucks improve to 2-10 all-time in the regular season at the CenturyTel Center. Jung, who turned 22 Friday night, improves to 8-8-2 on the season.
Neither team was able to light the lamp in the first period as the game was scoreless after 20 minutes of play.
The Mudbugs (21-17-2, 44 points) outshot the Bucks 8-7 in the first period.
The Bucks would explode and tie a season-high with five goals in the second period, including three in just 34 seconds to take a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.
Laredo would strike just 1:30 into the second period when Jarred Mohr scored from the top of the left circle on a four-on-three power-play to put the Bucks up 1-0. The goal was Mohr's fourth of the season.
Bossier would tie the game at 1-1 less than three minutes later when David Rutherford scored from the slot on a three-on-two break at the 4:06 mark. The strike was Rutherford's team-leading 23rd of the season.
Then the Bucks offense would explode for three goals in just 34 seconds as they silenced the Mudbugs crowd.
Benson would give the Bucks a 2-1 lead 6:26 into the second when he scored right in front of the net off of a feed from Ryan Bennett. Just 19 seconds later Ryan Lehr jammed in a rebound on the right side of the crease to put the Bucks up 3-1 as he netted his eighth of the season. Chris Pontes would score on a wraparound off the face off just 15 seconds later as the Bucks would go up 4-1. The goal was Pontes' second of the season.
With the Bucks up 4-1 the Mudbugs pulled goaltender Brian Foster and replaced him with Jon DeCaro. Foster stopped just nine of 13 shots he faced.
The Bucks would increase their lead to 5-1 with 8:13 left in the period when Benson scored his second of the night on a breakaway past DeCaro.
The Bucks improve to 11-1-1 whey they score four or more goals this season.
The Bucks were outshot 9-8 in the second period.
Neither team scored in the third period as the Mudbugs outshot the Bucks 14-4.
Laredo was outshot in the game 30-19.
The Bucks were once again shorthanded as they played with just 13 skaters with Neil Trimm, Darryl Smith, Justin Styffe and Brian Matte all sat out with injuries.
Laredo continues their four-game road trip Sunday night in Wichita. Game time is 5:05pm.
