Colorado Eagles Issue Five Qualifying Offers to Players

July 2, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles issued Qualifying Offers to five players from last season's roster over the weekend in accordance with the ECHL's deadline to do so. Each team that participated in the league last season is allowed to issue up to eight Qualifying Offers to players from their previous season's roster, reserving the right to those players for an extended period of time. No more than four of a team's Qualifying Offers may go to a veteran skater (one having played in at least 260 pro games).

The five players to whom the Eagles issued Qualifying Offers include one goalie (Damien Ketlo), one defensemen (Brennan Yadlowski) and three forwards (Jordan Baker, Jack Combs & Kevin Ulanski); Ulanski is the only veteran among the group.

If the players do not sign the Qualifying Offers by Aug. 1, the offers become void and the parties can attempt to re-negotiate a different contract or take no further action, however, the player's ECHL rights will be retained by the offering team for the entirety of the following season, unless they are a veteran player.

If the player is a veteran, they become a restricted free agent throughout the month of August, during which they may attempt to negotiate a deal with another team. If they agree to a deal with a different team, the team that offered the Qualifying Offer has one week to match the other team's contract offer. Veterans who have not signed a contract of any kind by Aug. 31 become unrestricted free agents, free to sign with any club with no other qualifications.
