Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, CO â The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League were honored this weekend at the annual CHL Awards Banquet in Phoenix, Arizona. The conference was the largest ever with over 300 people in attendance, and proves that the Central Hockey League is headed in the right direction. The Eagles success in their inaugural season did not go unnoticed by the CHL, as the team was nominated in five of the possible 13 annual awards including the Franchise of the Year. Colorado was granted two awards: Ticket Sales Franchise of the Year and the Corporate Partnership Sales Executive of the Year.
"This is a tribute to our fans and partners that we were recognized for all of their support," said Eagles' CEO Bill Stewart. "Because of them, we have established a new standard of success in the Central Hockey League."
The franchise set a CHL record for an expansion team with 91 points and they had a 43-16-5 record. The Eagles also captured the Northwest Division title and the regular-season Northern Conference crown in their inaugural season. Colorado sold out all 32 regular-season home games and both playoff games at the Budweiser Events Center (5,211) in Loveland, and due to that success Colorado won the Ticket Sales Franchise of the Year which is presented annually to the Central Hockey League ticketing department that demonstrates the highest level of productivity and creativity over the course of the season.
"We are really proud of this award for our staff," explained Director of Ticketing Jim Muller "and we want to thank the community for showing their support and bringing energy and excitement to all of the Eagles' games."
Vice President of Corporate Partners, Brent Thiessen was awarded the Corporate Partnership Sales Executive of the Year award in his first season with the Eagles. The award is presented annually to the Central Hockey League executive who has best demonstrated excellence and leadership in the area of Corporate Partnership Sales. The Eagles led the CHL in Corporate Sales in the 2003-04 season.
"I am honored to be a part of such a successful and professional organization," said Thiessen. "This award was a team effort and I couldn't have accomplished this without all of the help of our staff along the way. It is really a tribute to the Northern Colorado businesses that have shown such great support to the Eagles throughout this past season."
The organization was nominated for Franchise of the Year award but the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, also in their inaugural season took home the honor. Eagles' General Manager Ralph Backstrom was nominated for the Soul of Service Award which is presented annually to the Central Hockey League executive who has best demonstrated the qualities of excellence and dedication to providing outstanding customer service.
Backstrom was very impressed with the conference, "I have attended all of the conferences in the past and this is the best one thus far. The Central Hockey League should be congratulated for an outstanding job."
The fifth and final nomination for the Eagles was for the Game Operations Franchise of the Year presented annually to the Central Hockey League franchise which has consistently produced the most entertaining and well planned in-arena events during the course of the season.
