Colonials Win In Walkover

August 27, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Pittsfield Colonials News Release

PITTSFIELD, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials picked up a half game in the Can-Am League overall standings and didn't even have to throw a single pitch.

In a game that had originally been rescheduled to 11 a.m. to allow the visiting Newark Bears to make it home in time before Hurricane Irene came into northern New Jersey, the Pittsfield Colonials won the game by forfeit when the Bears did not show up for the game.

Pittsfield players stood in uniform on the field while Colonials' manager Jamie Keefe handed his lineup card to the umpiring crew. At 11:05, crew chief Chase Edmondson signaled to the press box that Newark had forfeited the game, giving Pittsfield their 48th win of the season.

The win puts Pittsfield 0.5 games ahead of Brockton in the standings, moving them ahead of the Rox into third place in the Can-Am League. Brockton had their game against New Jersey suspended, tied at 2-2. That game will be completed as part of a doubleheader when the Jackals visit the Rox on September 2.

The final week of Can-Am play should provide some intense matchups as the Colonials and Brockton battle for third place in the standings Tuesday through Thursday in Brockton with all three games beginning at 7:05 p.m. Coverage of Tuesday's game will begin at 6:45 p.m. on 89.7 WTBR with the Pittsfield Colonials pregame show.
