Pittsfield Colonials News Release
PITTSFIELD, MA - A pair of homeruns rallied the Pittsfield Colonials from a 6-2 fifth inning deficit to within a single run, but the Colonials were unable to climb the rest of the mountain as Pittsfield fell to the Quebec Capitales 6-5.
With the Colonials trailing 6-2 in the fifth, Quentin Davis came up with Jerod Edmondson on first base and delivered his first homerun of the season, clearing the wall in right to slice the Capitales lead to 6-4. Three innings later, Billy Mottram came up and parked his seventh homerun of the season to pull the game to within a single run at 6-5.
That was as close as Pittsfield would come as T. J. Stanton came in and shut the door in the ninth for his 10th save of the year.
Quebec got off to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, thanks in part to a two-run homer by Mitch Delaney to center, his second long ball of the season. The Colonials got two of the runs back in the second when Davis drove in his first pair of the day, singling home Scoot Knazek and the newest Colonial, Jermel Lomack, to cut the lead to 4-2.
The Capitales responded with single runs in the third and fifth on an RBI single from Delaney and a sacrifice fly by Mathieu Vallieres to push the lead back to four.
Matthew Rusch (4-4) earned the win with six innings of work, allowing four runs. Miguel Flores (1-6) took the loss for Pittsfield. The Colonials got good relief pitching out of Mike Zenko who worked three scoreless innings, striking out five. Chris Rubio also contributed with a scoreless ninth inning.
Offensively, the four RBI for Davis matched his career high, which he had previously achieved four times.
The series will wrap up on Wednesday with Chad Paronto (4-4, 4.28) on the mound for Pittsfield. He will take on Schenectady, NY native Dan Sausville (4-1, 4.10) for Quebec. First pitch at Wahconah Park is slated for 7:00 p.m. For tickets or information visit pittsfieldcolonials.com or call (413)-236-2961.
