Colonials Comeback on Torres Blast, Sweep Skyhawks

Pittsfield, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials rallied to score five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, highlighted by a three-run homern from catcher Chris Torres, to propel Pittsfield to an 8-7 come-from-behind win over the Sussex Skyhawks at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield on Wednesday night.

Torres (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) cranked his second homer of the season after Donny Leon (1-for-4, 2 RBI) tagged a two-run, bases loaded, single to begin the scoring in the last half of the eighth. Teammates Matt Nandin (2-for-5, 2B, RBI) and Dan Carte (2-for-4, RBI) each chipped in with a pair of hit and an RBI in the effort.

Colonials' starter David Qualben ended the night with a no-decision after allowing six runs over six innings of work. Reliever Pat Bresnehan (1-0) earned the win giving up one run over two innings out of the bullpen. Closer Juan Padilla (9) recorded his second save in as many night to nail the down the three game series sweep in the ninth.

Skyhawks starting pitcher Jeff Icenogle also took a no-decision after dealing seven innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits while walking no batters and striking-out five. Reliever Matt Salvato gave-up four runs out of the bullpen while Jared Locke (5-5) was charged with the loss, giving-up the winning run.

Offensively for the Skyhawks, Caleb Stewart (3-for-5, 2B, HR, 3 RBI) led the way, finishing a triple shy of the cycle, belting a homer and driving in his league leading 73rd RBI of the season.

The Colonials continue their series home-stand with a four game series with the Brockton Rox on Thursday night when right-hander Kyle Zaleski (7-3) takes the ball against Brockton's Mike Wlodarczyk.
