Can-Am League Recap

August 11, 2010 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Pittsfield 8, Sussex 7

A five-run eighth fueled a thrilling come-from-behind win for Pittsfield in its 8-7 win over Sussex. C Chris Torres ripped a homer as part of a 2-for-4 night and drove in three runs, and SS Matt Nandin added two hits, including a double and an RBI for the Colonials. The Skyhawks' offense was led by DH Caleb Stewart, who fell a triple short of the cycle and knocked in three runs. SS Chase Fontaine enjoyed a three-hit night in the losing effort as well.

Brockton 7, Worcester 3

RHP Mike Smith struck out ten for Brockton in six innings of work and picked up the win as the Rox scored seven unanswered runs to knock off the Tornadoes 7-3. CF Chris Valencia went 4-for-5 out of the leadoff spot and 3B Phillip Cuadrado added two hits, two walks, and three RBI in five plate appearances. LF Ryan Crespi reached base twice, scored, and had an RBI sacrifice fly in the losing effort for Worcester.

Quebec 8, New Jersey 2

A well-pitched game quickly became a rout when Quebec pushed five insurance runs across in the top of the ninth, highlighted by CF Sebastien Boucher's two-run triple, to beat New Jersey 8-2. SS Ivan Naccarata and 2B Josh Colafemina each had four-hit games for the Capitales from the top two spots in the order, scoring two and three times respectively. Starting pitcher Michel Simard gave up two earned runs over 6.2 innings pitched, and closer Andrew Albers notched his 12th save with two scoreless frames. LHP Ryan Lobban's quality start for the Jackals was wasted in the loss, and 3B Abraham Nunez reached base in his 29th consecutive game for New Jersey on an eighth-inning single.
