Pittsfield Colonials News Release
PITTSFIELD, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials homered three times, twice by Jerod Edmondson and got eight strong innings out of Pat Moran en route to an 11-5 victory over the Worcester Tornadoes.
The win now moves Pittsfield within two games of Worcester in the second half standings with 11 games remaining.
Things did not look good for the Colonials early on as the Tornadoes loaded the bases with one out in the first. Nick Salotti drove a deep fly ball to center. Edmondson caught it for what appeared to be a sacrifice fly, but Matt Nandin took the throw from center and fired to Danny Bomback at second for a force on Alex Trezza before Abraham Nunez touched the plate to prevent the run from scoring.
Pittsfield scored their first runs of the game in the second inning, plating four in the frame including a solo homer from Chris Torres and a two run shot by Edmondson. The Colonials added three in the fourth on a three-run bomb by Edmondson to make it 7-0.
After Worcester scored a run in the fifth, Pittsfield responded with two more on a Scott Knazek double to up the lead to 9-1. A passed ball and a Peter Fatse RBI single rounded out the Pittsfield offense in the sixth. Worcester added a run in the eighth and three in the ninth to create the final margin.
The beneficiary of the run support was Pat Moran (10-3) who went eight innings allowing one earned run. Shawn Gilblair (5-6) took the loss for the Tornadoes.
Offensively in addition to Edmondson's homers, which were his 12th and 13thof the season, Danny Bomback had three hits while Fatse, Torres and Knazek each had two.
The middle game of the series against the Tornadoes comes up on Wednesday with Chad Paronto (8-6, 4.01) on the mound for the Colonials. Coverage on 89.7 WTBR FM will begin at 6:40 p.m. with the pregame show outside of a 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
