Can-Am League Game Recaps

August 23, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Quebec 9, New York 0

The Capitales pitching staff dominated New York batters all night, striking out 11 batters while allowing only five hits on their way to a 9-0 victory. Starting hurler John Mariotti earned the win, striking out six over five and two-thirds innings while allowing four hits and a walk. With the Federals offense stagnate, Quebec put runs on the board early and often, with nine of the 10 Capitales that had at-bats either getting a hit or scoring a run. C Patrick D'Aoust hit two doubles, scored twice and batted in a run to lead the offensive effort while Ivan Naccarata picked up his first homer of the year.

Pittsfield 11, Worcester 5

Colonials leadoff CF Jerod Edmondson struck out in his first at-bat against Worcester. But that didn't discourage him. Edmondson hit home runs in his next two at-bats, a two-run blast in the third and a three-run shot in the fourth to power Pittsfield past Worcester, 11-5. Starting Colonials pitcher Patrick Moran threw eight innings and worked around 11 hits, giving up just two runs (one earned) before handing the ball off to reliever Brandon Garner to start the ninth. Worcester 1B Nick Salotti scored two of his club's five runs, going 2-for-5.

New Jersey 11, Newark 7

The Jackals trailed by as many as four runs in the middle innings. But after putting three on the board in the fifth and another four in the sixth, New Jersey coasted to an 11-7 victory. C Myron Leslie went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and three RBI. Leslie doubled in the first two runs of the New Jersey comeback. Newark scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings to go on top, 6-2. Three of those six runs, however, were unearned. No Bears batter had more than one hit, while the Jackals pitching staff struck out 10 while allowing only seven hits.

Brockton 6, Rockland 1

The Rox scored two in the first inning and never trailed en route to a 6-1 victory over Rockland. Rox leadoff CF Chris Valencia led all players in hits, going 3-for-4 with a run. Starting Brockton pitcher Julian Sampson earned the win, striking out four while allowing one run on six hits in seven innings. It was his ninth win of the season. Boulders 1B Cristobal Santana was the only Rockland player with more than one hit, going 2-for-4 while scoring the only Rockland run of the night.
