Coleman Wins ECHL Goaltender of Month

Alaska Aces goaltender, Gerald Coleman was named the ECHL Goaltender of the Month for October, the Aces and the ECHL announced on Thursday. Coleman and the Aces continue their three-game week, and six-game home stand on Friday and Saturday night when they host the Bakersfield Condors at 7:15pm. Tickets for both games are on sale now. Coleman was 5-2-0 with one shutout, a 1.42 goals-against average and a .948 save percentage as he played in all seven games for the Aces in October. He opened the season with five straight wins, starting with consecutive 25-save performances over Las Vegas on Oct. 14 and 15. After stopping 16 shots in a 4-2 win over Idaho on Oct. 20, and stopping 25 shots in a 2-1 victory against the Steelheads on Oct. 21, Coleman completed the series sweep with a 22 save shutout in a 3-0 win on Oct. 22. Coleman was named the Reebok ECHL Goaltender of the Week in each of the first two weeks of the season, becoming just the fifth goaltender in league history to win the award in back-to-back weeks.

The 26-year-old leads the ECHL in games played (8), minutes played (482), and saves (203). He is tied for first with five wins and one shutout. This is Coleman's second Goaltender of the Month Award with the Aces. He also won the award in March of 2011.

A native of Evanston, Ill. Coleman was named to the All-ECHL First Team and was selected as ECHL Goaltender of the Year last season with Alaska after leading the ECHL with a 2.19 goals-against average and tying for the league lead with 30 wins and four shutouts.

Coleman has appeared in 153 ECHL games with Johnstown, Augusta, Phoenix, Trenton, and Alaska, posting an overall record of 84-50 with nine shutouts, a 2.60 goals-against average, and a save percentage of .909. Coleman also has 81 games of American Hockey League experience with Springfield, Portland, Worcester, and Lowell, and two games of National Hockey League experience with Tampa Bay.
